I am far from being new to 1911's but the STI has me stumped. How do you remove the ambi safety so you can disassemble the gun? I removed the grip frame and still could not see how the right sided safert lever is removed to continue with the disassembly.

Thanks
Jim

If the right side of the thumb safety has a tongue that goes under the right grip panel, all you have to do to remove it is to jiggle it out. Use a flat plastic knife or something, under the right part of the safety and pry it our.

If the safety does not have a tongue, then most probably it is secured to the right side via a pin, either the sear pin or the hammer pin. In that case, you have to move the right side of the safety up, to clear the pin.
