Any help or ideas on which one is a better buy would be helpful between a Sentinel vs Compact Carry Comp.

hogs, I just don't know about the single port comps. I have tried several of the comps that replace the barrel bushing and have not had any luck with them. The only comp gun I did like was my STI with a hybird barrel and a 8 chamber comp in 38 super, but you had to really load it hot to get the slide to function properly. So if it were me I would go with the Professional with the 4" barrel and full size frame. My hands are big and I have a hard time holding on to the smaller frames. I haved one of the professional and it is the number 1 pistol in my safe. Hopes this helps some.

Thanks man, I have a Professional and I agree it is probably my favorite gun. Just thinking about getting something for the collection and maybe for a little protection, something a little smaller than the Pro.

hogs, I have had 3 and still have 2 Wilsons and you just can't beat them. All of mine have run 100% out of the box. They would feed green beans if I could figure out how to shove a primer up their butts.

You might keep in mind the additional muzzel flash and noise with the carry comp. At night or low light you can't afford anny additional loss of sight or hearing.

You think it would be louder in addition to the flash?

Rule of thumb...hearing protection is usually mandatory with a comp gun, or expect your ears to be ringing for a week or so.

This is my personal view and others may disagree, but I don't see the point to the Compact Carry Comp.

First, compensators work best best with high velocity, high pressure cartridges. The .45 ACP doesn't fit that description.

Second, you will get a lot of vertical muzzle flash with a compensator. That could be dangerous in a "working" gun that might need to be fired from a close in retention position.

I know that some folks like a compensator on a carry piece. It doesn't interest me. YMMV

My only experience with a compensator was on an AR a friend of mine had. We were on the range and he got his AR out and started shooting it. We were under a covered shooting area and the first time he shot that thing, it hurt my chest, just the sound and energy that was delivered backwards from the compensator on that 223. I have shot a lot of large caliber guns in the past, and have never felt that kind of energy from a weapon. Now he says it shoots like a dream, absolutely no recoil and no muzzle rise, but will kill your ears, and can't stand it to shoot under a shelter for how it hits you in the chest and gut. On the LARGE caliber weapons such as 338 lapua, 50BMG, 30-378, 375 H&H, etc. I can see the need but a weapon that is already manageable, I can't see it.

That's all good stuff, thank you guys. Sounds like a Sentinel for me is a easy decision.

Not to mention if you have to shoot from a retention position you're going to get a nasty flash burn. We tested this by holding a piece of target paper about 6-8" above the port while somebody fired the gun. It blew a nice big hole in the paper with a nasty black ring around it.

You think it would be louder in addition to the flash?
Like you wouldn't believe. Even with ear pro on I can pick out the comp gun at the range by the sound.

Went to a gun show today, saw a carry comp (obviously didn't shoot it but...), decided it's a silly gun unless you have a lot of doe and just want it for the collection. It solves a problem that doesn't exist.

Hopefully you've already purchased a Sentinel and you now know what a fantastic gun it is. If not, rest assured it is the single best firearm I own, hands down. It would be the desert island companion no doubt, even out doing my M14. I absolutely love my Sentinel.

I know exactly what you are talking about.
A friend of mine has a Bushmaster AR-15 with the compensator that actually has ports on the sides that send the gases, flash, and sound back at you.

This was one of the rifles made during the ever popular AWB Mr. and Mrs. Clinton put into effect. The break was fixed and not removeable.

To this day that stupid AR is the loudest and most unpleasant AR I have ever shot or any other rifle for that matter.

My friend hates it and so do I it is loud even with ear protection. It will make your ears bleed if you do not have hearing protection.

About othe only quick fix I can think of is to use a drill press to drill the 4 ports that are angled back at you straight. That should fix the problem.

What if you ever have to use that AR in a situation where you don't have the opportunity to put ear protection on. You would be deaf after 2 rounds.

That kind of muzzle break has no advantages only disadvantages.

I was lucky enough to buy an original Sentinel used a couple of years ago. While I still feel that nothing can beat a full-size 1911, it's hard to imagine a better carry gun than the Sentinel. Like switch said, "I absolutely love my Sentinel!"

Have you seen on Wilson's new website the Sentinel in Hard Chrome? Now, that is one awesome looking gun.
