This is almost certainly a non no... But moderators, PLEASE look and you will understand.

This is dumbfounding. An entire collection of pristine Colt 1911s, and a SINGER!!!! I've NEVER seen one! EVER!!!

I felt I HAD to share this with you guys.

I guess this is as good a place as any, he has Commercials and USGIs and other makers listed.

I'll be real interested in seeing what the Singer goes for, I'd bet 40K.

Do you really think the Singer will go that high? Man there are some real nice Colts for sale. I sure wish I was filthy rich (yea I know I am half right).

One sold a few years back at a Rock Island Arsenal auction for that.

I work with a guy that says he has a Singer. Are those the rarest of all 1911's?

The rarest of all 1911A1s, that were accepted by Ordnance, 500 units. North American Arms Company built 100 "tool room" 1911 models.

Hi

I'm not trying to judge anybody here, so don't take this wrong.

For a lot less than $40K you could make a very good duplicate of a Singer.

For that kind of money I'd be pretty careful buying it without being able to hold in in my greasy hands first.

Wonder why he is putting such a collection on the market all at once? Did owe some back taxes or what?

True, but it wouldn't be a Singer. ;)

But you're not a scheming fraud, either. If you sold a SInger, I'm sure it would be a Singer. I'm sure that there has to be an appraisal of that pistol for that kind of money.

Hi

What I was getting at was the paper trail, rather than making one your self. With the proper paper backing up what it is then it's really a Singer. Without that it's a very shaky proposition in my book.

My problem with the online auction setup is that you rarely have the chance to really check into this kind of thing. It's not limited to guns, it's an issue I have with the high ticket online auction process in general.

Well you know, buyer beware. A fool and his money.... You are correct in my book, for that high a dollar purchase, there should be some proof of what you're buying is authentic.

I would certainly hope so too Dave, he has too many others that have been refinished. So, my comment of going for 40K, was based on it being correct and original, it may not be. ;)

The proper papers can be forged too.

You see why I am leery of buying used stuff. I'd be the sucker that got had!

OD, refinishing a shooter isn't a problem, right?
Refinishing a collector gun devalues it alot, doesn't it?

No, I had two re-done, didn't bother me a bit, mine were a little rough, or had been refinished previously.

Yes indeed. I would never do it to a gun that retains any of it's collectiblity.

There was one collector on another board that compared anyone who would refinish a USGI to a child molester.
Now buddy, that is truly anal.

Hi

The only way I know to verify the paperwork is to do a lot of leg work. It can be done, and you can detect a fraud. It simply takes time and work.

In my book an online auction should sell at a lower price than one that gives you the time to do the work. From what I have seen the opposite often is true.

Again, I have absolutely no idea of the background of any of these pistols. They probably all are 100% legit.

I don't have the bucks (or other attributes) to play at this game, but if I did - wow what a risk !!!

And that is exactly how it is done with the firearm itself.

I've read about those before. I actually have a rubber Remington. Bought it from a table at a gunshow, mold was made from an actual Remington 1911A1 and the guy I bought it from used to wear it on training maneuvers during post WWII/Korean war era. He said officers had to have SOMETHING in the holster on the web belt and several had bought the rubber ones to keep the weight down.

I use it along with a blue polystyrene Glock in my Defensive Handgun classes so students can try out somewhat complex turn, draw, and move stuff before doing it with real hardware.

Safety.

Mmmm, Singer 1911A1s. A buddy of mine was Security at Naval Base Norfolk during Desert Storm. He was issued a Singer which came out of the armory at Naval Hospital Portsmouth. Of course he didn't know what he had. I tried to trade for it, but he was worried about it when he had to turn it in. :D

I'll bet it was melted down by Billy Bob's boys after the Beretta issue finally made it to the Navy.

They just didn't get it. Sell off a few of 'em throuh the CMP and pay down the defecit.

That is one nice set of 1911s on the auction block. Another case of a dollar short for me. College daughter, college daughter's recent car oops, college daughter's new apartment. There went two 1911s at least.
