Aimtech Mount

Has anyone had any experience with an Aimtech mount? I want to put an red-dot optical sight on one of my 1911s. I am reluctant to modify the slide, and the Aimtech just replaces the right grip. My concern is not only strength but how functional it is. It looks as if ejected cases would hit the mount. I appreciate any feedback. (I apologize if this is a repeat question.)

I've got an Aimtech for my Kimber Eclipse. Works fine and doesn't interfere with shell ejection, but it does put the red dot high engough above the slide to give me a feeling of being disconnected from my pistol. What I'd really like is a Docter or Optima melted in, but I can't bring myself to have the slide machined.
