sbvann,

There were a lot of serial number lists floating around in years past, and most disagreed with one another at some point. We have Charles Clawson to thank for doing the research and straightening the lists out. My website and Ty's have Clawson's S/N list online, although the one on the websites only show year of production and not shipping information. Also, be aware that end-of-year serial numbers can still be a bit fuzzy, as for example a pistol made on December 28th may not have been shipped until January 8th and thus be listed as 1945 production. However, for all intents and purposes Clawson's list is, ahem..... close enough for government work.

Sbavann -

I have an M1911 with a serial number of 4995 (that's the whole number). I know it's part of the 1912 lot for the Navy. Do you have any shipping info or just production info? At some point, this pistol ended up over in the Pacific, where it found it's way to my great-uncle (and eventually to me!).

Thanks!

Goddard (The Government Models ) has the range 4501-5500 shipped to the US Navy yard at Brooklyn August 30th 1912.
Individual pistols within the range may have been issued seperately to various governments, and individual private sales .Some re-issued or picked out as individual replacements for earlier shipments
Very early gun congratulations I'd love to see a picture. :)

Bill,

I have a Colt 1911 A1 that came into my family when MacArthur and his forces were retaking the Philippines. The serial number is 1155XXX

Any information you can provide is appreciated.

Happy New Year,

One is a Colt 1911 serial 119xxx. This one allegedly came from a WW2 Marine who just brought it home with him.

Second, is a Remington-Rand 1911a1 Serial 1,917,xxx this one is a gun shop pick-up.

Thanks,
Perry
