I'd appreciate some stories of personal accounts with the Peter Stahl. From where I live, only one gunstore sells it and it comes only in frame with trigger.
Is the Peter Stahl a good base for a project hi-cap 1911? It's of forged steel and made in Italy.

Joseph Peters (the man who designed the P.S. pistols) and I were corresponding a couple of years ago, some of the blueprints in the Technical Issues folder of M1911.ORG come from his archive. Unfortunatelly, I tried to reach him a few days ago, and his e-mail address is no longer valid. He must have moved back to Germany, from the Emirates where he was working.
I'll try to find him again, and see if he cares to join this forum, answering questions like yours.

Peters Stahl is in Paterborn Germany. They are still in business. I've corresponded with the factory (they do write in English). Do a search engine on Peters Stahl. I've met Joe years ago and have seen/shot/worked on some of the products when he was in charge. The main concern with Peters Stahl is importing their stuff to the U.S. Springfield Armory has in the past used Peters Stahl, but the importing regulations soon stopped them. I do not know about the quality of their stuff today, but it used to be pretty good. The Multi-calibers upper is still available on their website. Good luck

John and Stumbler,
Thanks very much!
The project gun, as per available parts supply (Ed Brown, Kings, and SPS...hope these are ok brand quality names), is halfway complete, with a Rock Island slide and 4" bull barrel fitted with Ed Brown parts.
So what are my choices of frames? Three in fact: BULM5, Peters Stahl, and Rock Island. Of course, the second and third are heavier since they're of steel (btw, forged steel and cast 4140...any significant difference?) so the BUL will win out if one of my top priorities will be weight of the gun.
I don't know, but when I made the decision this afternoon to go for the BUL I went home this evening thinking about the Peters Stahl...

Sorry, I have no opinion concerning the Bul M5 frame, some people here are using them, quite cheaper than the STI/SVI ones, but I can't say anything pro or against them.

Hi Itha,
Those imported gun parts you acquired, are they not expensive? You got those parts on-line shopping or from our local gun store back there? Can you give me the name of the Gun store or the website where you've got it, so that i can get my parts on their store also?
thanks man. ;)

BC,
I got the quotes at the local gunstores here in Manila. I don't think they have an online shopping system setup.
Bul is from TRUST TRADE; Peters Stahl is from PB DIONISIO; and Rock Island is from TWIN PINES (the RIA manufacturer as well).
For four days staring on the 8th of next month, the annual gunshow will take place. You could have a bussy, relative, or any representative purchase for you so long as they have legal written authority. Good luck!
(Note: PB Dioniso has a grand sale until this Friday, discount rate greater than their gunshow price, so I suggest you have someone visit their store along Roces Avenue, QC. Peters Stahl frame sells for only 14,400 PhP.

BC,
A complete receiver assembly on a Peter Stahl-based frame would fetch an approx total expense of between 29 to 30 T if fitted with a combination of Ed Brown and SPS parts.
Ed Brown and SPS are the only parts they sell and since each is not complete in line, you have no choice but to fit one with the other.
BUL 1911 parts from Trust Trade are much lower in price (almost 50% less), so I ordered them. Btw, today I already placed an order for a polymer BUL frame over the RIA and Peters Stahl (almost got the Stahl since it's of forged steel, while the RIA is only of cast 4140; but since the project is for duty/LE carry purpose, I guess the lighter BUL edged the the other two).
Also, please note Twin Pines sells a different RIA 1911 here than in the States. Americans get the "export/enhanced version''but there is one outlet of TP that mistakenly sells this higher end (due to an inventory blunder) at the same price as the local GI RIA: 27,000 PhP. I almost got it because it's a whole piece (complete gun already with custom parts).
