All, I just bought a new Taurus 1911 and let me tell you it comes out of the box ready to shoot in competition. Loaded is the way to describe it. Hinie straight 8 sights, 30 LPI checkering front and rear. polished throat, lowered ejection port and lots more. I am reading on gun test that each guns parts are matched as they are built. I have 3 Kimbers, 2 Charles Dailys, 3 Springfields and several off brand 1911s, this gun out shoots them all and at $450.00 dollars you can't go wrong. Try one for your self, this gun should get the attention of all them high dollar gun makers.

Really nice looking weapon George! :D What kind of finish is that? Looks like a bake on coating? Teflon?

Jeff, I am not sure what the finish is but it is real smooth, a lot like my new M&P S&W 9mm.

I've read a lot of nice things about the Taurus.BUT, I'm kinda a traditionlist, what's with all those cuts in the slide?? Oh well, if it shoots good;who cares??Shot my first .45 in 1969 & didn't like it at all..NOW I love them...

The Taurus web site lists only a blue model and a Stainless model so unless they have a 3rd undocumented finish, I guess it's blued. Though the one on their website had wood grip panels. Maybe there are options?

I've been lookin heavily at the Taurus too, and it is a cold blued weapon from what I understand. I'm kinda waitin on the commander version to come out, and probably in 9mm too or 40S&W. I prefer the 9, but if I get it in 40 I can use the provided ammo when we go out on tactical training ;)

JWENUM, I shot my first 1911 back in mid 50s in the army, I also did not like them then. Now I shoot them more than I do any of my other guns.

All, in this months American Rifleman Wiley Clapp did a great report on the Taurus 1911. His only complant was the trigger pull, he stated his test gun was 6 to 7 lbs. I used my RCBS test spring gage on mine and it breaks at 3.5lbs every time. He must have got an early gun or a protype that had a heavy trigger. I love the pull on mine, I dont know when it will fire if I use a stady squeeze and thats as it should be.

I just went to my local gun shop and was told that the PT1911s weren't out yet. They also said that they had heard there were supposedly some quality problems. Two questions: Where did you get yours for $450 (that's a really good price), and have you heard any of those same rumors?

AZ Mark, no I have not heard of QA problems, I have over 200 rounds through mine and no issues. As for dealers not having the gun, I had 4 local gun stores tell me there supplyer did not have them in stock and they could not get them at this time. I got mine at Eds Gun shop in vass NC, and he had more than one at $449.00.

Got mine for $489 in Merritt Island, Florida. I really like it. Very crisp/light trigger. Very good slide/frame fit. The only minor problem I've had was with the original Taurus magazines failed to lock the slide open after the initial 200rounds and during breakin period a couple ftf with jhps. Switched to Wilson mags and no problems at all, very very accurate gun.

Nice pics Tokarev. Doesn't look bad. That front sight sure looks wide, and one of those firing pin levers is different from a series 80.

I just got done busting mine down... I would post pics, but they're horrible compared to the ones already up.
The lever is called the 'trigger bar lever' and sits on the right of the sear & disconnector on the same pin. It actuates the firing pin block lever, which pushes up on the series 80 style firing pin block.
My inards looked good. Most contact surfaces were nicely polished. I did have one dent on the frame were the slide sits, so I filed that down and polished it. I also had a little nasty spot at the bottom of the barrel, but that may have been from a crappy case on the first 100 that I shot with it. I polished it out too.
Haven't checked my trigger pull yet, but another one at the shop was ~5.5 lbs. Mine is a little lighter than that one.

The parts operate in the same manner as the Colt parts. The blade on the plunger level does have a different shape than the Colt part.
One of these days I can strip my XSE Colt apart and see if the parts will interchange.
At least Taurus was smart enough to use a firing pin safety that works. Kimber and Smith have both had problems with theirs.

Tokarev ..... very nice layout. Thanks for taking the time. BTW, did you happen to notice if the firing pin stop has a rounded(beveled) edge on it? I couldn't tell from the picture. The reason I ask, is that I'm still waiting for the PT1911B3 (compact) to arrive, and 1911Tuner has written a MOST EXCELLENT sticky (under the "gunsmithing" forum) about reducing recoil by putting a radius on the firing pin stop, that I may use (eventually).
