I'm new to the forum. I have an unusual pistol. A 4 digit serial number Gold Cup that came from the Air Force Marksmanship unit and is marked AFPG. Barrel, slide, frame, and magazine are all serial numbered. Most ofl the major parts, including the grips, are marked "AF" or "AFPG." The first reference I ever saw to it was in Hallock's book. Google only found a couple of references.

I've never seen or even heard of another one of these. And I have no idea what it is worth. Any one have any info on these guns? The impression I have is that they only built a few on the Gold Cup, and virtually none ended up in civilian hands.

Yes they are rare and can get pricey in a hurry. I have an old book that list them in the $2700 dollar range in good to excellent shape but very little detail is given so I am not sure how accurate that figure is. AFPG means Air Force Premium Grade. It is estimated that 10 thousand were produced. Check out this link about 1/2 way down the page. I am envious as I am a Gold Cup nut. I am sure she is a beautiful pistol.

I don't have a digital camera so no pictures. However, the gun looks just like any other early 60s Gold Cup with Accro rear sight. Grips are plain walnut (no medallian) and are stamped AF on the back side. Otherwise, the pistol is marked just like a commercial Gold Cup plus the normal Air Force match pistol markings.

I'm trying to find out what it is worth. I have a friend that want too buy it, and I've been out of work for a while and would sell it. But, I'd like to know how rare and what they are selling for before it goes out the door.

Thanks.

Just my 2 cents, but unless you are really that strapped, this gun sounds like an investment more than a keeper.
Been several guns I wish I had never sold, hindsight being that I coulda found the money from somewhere else.
Not trying to tell you what to do as I dont know the whole situation, but this gun sounds like definite keeper.

AFPG pistols were produced at Lackland AFB, TX. They are very desirable and some have premium values. In '94 I sold an AFPG accurized Ruger MK I .22 LR that I picked up as an AGR, and have regreted the sale ever since, but needed the money at the time.
