Hi guys i'm new to the forum and was wondering if you might be able to help me out with this pistol i picked up.
here is what i know about it.
I bought it from an estate and I recieved a couple of cards with it. 1 was from the NRA stating that the owner in 1965 was designated a pistol marksman and the other paper i got was from fort irwin california saying it was restricted property and it was kept in the unit arms room with the right s# in 1965

anyway here is a description of the gun.
the slide is marked government model colt automatic caliber 45 with the rampant horse on one side. this is what i could not figure out on the other side if the slide it says colt mfg hartford conn. but above that it has a number 521x it has a elliason rear sight and a larger than stock blade front sight. the frame has FJA and P on one side and crossed cannons and marked united states property No 12608xx m1911 a1 us army and a number 6 on the trigger guard. it also has a all metal no lightning holes trigger that is adjustable and the finish is all parked. this gun istighter than and smoother than any kiber or wilson i have ever owned andthe trigger is not to light but maybe 4-5 pounds but no slop.
I will try and figure out the photo hosting and take some pictures of it.

any help would be great.

In 1960 and 1961 the slides were serial numbered to the frames with the last four digits of the serial number under the ejection port. The barrel should have the full serial number of the pistol on the chamber under the seven digit part number for the NM barrel. The bushing should have the last four digits of the serial number electro penciled on the side of the bushing. The right side of the frame should have SA, NM, and T stamped on it, and the front grip strap should be nicely milled checkering on it. These are the major points in determining an issue Springfield Armory NM pistol.

here is a link to the picture of the slide hopefully the picture is o.k.
i'm not the best at detail shots.
the slide number does not match the frame number.
but when i had taken it appart i noticed thet the bushing was electro penciled with the frame number along with the underside of the hammer.
the barrel is marked c on one side and M on the other and is blued.

You have a stock USGI Ithaca M1911A1 that has been sporterized/accurized for match shooting by adding an NM slide. The slide is looks like an early 60's NM slide, if the elliason rear sight has a US stamp on it, it is from '66 or '67. If the barrel has a boxed C and an M and P stamp it is a Colt. :)
