View Full Version : Officer model recoil springs

I bought a cut down slide for my Armscor 1911 frame. It came with a recoil spring that is 2 and 3/4 inches long and a spring that is the length of a Government model's.

With the shorter spring alone, I cannot manually retract the slide enough to lock it back or eject a round. With the spring removed and the stop in place in the barrel link, there is no problem.

Schematics at Numrich show two recoil springs. One is inserted in the other. Can you tell me how long these springs are when in place. I bet less than 2 3/4 inches.

Ed Brown's site lists a single 23# spring for the Officer's model. Is this superior to the two-spring design?

I would appreciate hearing from anyone familiar with this situation.
