ok, so after searching these threads and checking the info available on John's other site i think i've got a handle on the S-70/S-80 thing but maybe you guys can enlighten me a bit more on a piece i'm considering
it's a Colt custom gun shop Ser. 80 NM Mk 4 in matte stnls
i realize the nat match has a few accuracy enhancments but does the "custom gun shop" go one step further ie hand fitting etc
very dear price and dont want to make big mistake!

well i finally got pics and info back from seller and talked my 13yr old daughter into helping me get them here :o
pretty obvious what a "custom shop" is
don't think its a gun for me but i thought you all might like a look

Nice looking NM.
I read one blurb that the MK IV was not Mark 4 but was an inscription to honor one of the Colt engineers ( Mark or Mike Ivey) and then promptly lost the site and haven't been able to find it again. Maybe John knows where I saw that.
If you don't purchase the weapon, let me know where it is and how much via Private Message and I'll look into it.
Thanks.........Jeff :D :D

Sorry, haven't the faintest idea.
But such a gesture on behalf of Colt, I sincerely doubt it.

I don't think that gun came from the Colt Custom Shop. Colt does some one-off stuff, but the parts selection, and other details don't seem right. For instance, it's a Series 80 gun, but the rear sight is not set back as Colt does with S80 Bo-Mar sight installations. I haven't seen a Colt with a Brown beavertail; all the ones I've seen have had S&A beavertails. I've never seen a Colt product with an extended slide stop, Dlask trigger, etc. It might be a great gun, but probably not from the Colt.

tx for your input rick. as i'm fairly new to the 1911 , i wasn't sure what i was looking at :o
i like the look of the piece overall but don't care for the comp. up front, for me i don't see the use for it,i'm sure its a good shooter but it looks clumsy
