http://www.m1911.org/full_technic.htm

This is a link to the technical side of The M1911 Pistols Organization (that's us, if you were wondering). I built a pistol using that same kit, and this is where I started. On the left side, click on Techical Issues. The main window will then show you a list of articles. Near the top is a 6-part article on building a 1911. Farther up on the left side there is also a choice you can click for disassembly. That should give you enough to get started.

I will caution you, however, that the 6-part article leaves out some basics that I think the author(s) is/are so accustomed to that it never occurred to them that a novice wouldn't know it. Things like properly fitting the firing pin stop (mine was MUCH too tight), tuning the extractor, and I don't recall just what else. I persevered, but I had to post here for help at several steps along the way. Feel free to post any questions in the Gunsmithing forum, or drop me a PM if your too embarrassed to go public.

You can find the results of my build if you search on the term "Frankengun" using Hawkmoon as the user name to search for. Leave the date open -- the posts are probably more than a year old at this point.

If you are planning on shooting it.... May I suggest professional help, as in your local gunsmith.

A .45 can, and will leave a mark.....! :nono:

ok....but When I build it I will test it from about 10feet away and pull a string to shoot it.....but this is my first handgun and has always been inspired by it.
