Forgive me if I'm asking a question that's already been dealt with. Please point me to any existing relevant posts if there are some. I didn't see a search function or I'd have done that, so here goes:

I have installed a Wilson Combat ultralight match trigger and Wilson beavertail grip safety in my frame. Everything seems to work fine except that if you release the grip safety with the trigger held back, it will hang up (presumably under the tension of the grip safety spring) and will not return forward and reengage the grip safety finger until you either pull the trigger forward or re depress the grip safety a little bit. In most normal operation this might not be an issue, but if a hangup did occurr, it takes the grip safety out of play and could potentially create a hazardous situation in unfamiliar (and careless) hands. The trigger and trigger bar are free and smooth in their movement, the disconnect moves freely, the springs line up properly, etc. I have thought about polishing the bottom edge of the grip safety finger to reduce friction against the top of the trigger bar, but I want to make sure something else isn't fubar'd before I go any further.

I'd appreciate any ideas on how to remedy this glitch.

Thanks.

First off...........Welcome to the forum!

I've seen that problem on some guns...........and some people just live with it. Sometimes if you put a slight upward angle (toward the trigger) on the bottom of the trigger stop bar and polish it well, it'll stop.

Just be careful that after you angle it, you still have enough material to make a positive stop contact with the trigger bar.

What you desribe is not normal. When you release the trigger, the grip safety should return to its normal position. Disassemble your pistol, leaving in the frame only the trigger. Then put in only the main spring, the hammer, the MSH and the grip safety, but insert the thumb safety from the right side of the frame, instead of the left, so that its shaft holds the grip safety in place. Now, you can see inside the frame, from the opening on the left side. Check where the binding occurs, and file carefully so that the safety returns behind the trigger bow, when the trigger is released.

If you just installed an ultra-light match trigger, did you also tinker with the sear spring to reduce the trigger pull weight? If so, you may have taken too much tension off one of the fingers, so there isn't enough pressure to move the trigger back with the arm of the grip safety dragging on it.

What's your trigger pull?

Thanks all for several good suggestions. Between seeing where it hangs, a little careful file work, some polishing and correct spring tension adjustment, I oughtta be able to get it right.

Awesome! I'm a happy boy! After inspecting the operation of the girp safety in-situ as recommended above, I could see where the trigger bar was hanging up. Turns out that the bottom surface of the safety finger was rough as a cob. By simply smoothing it with fine emory cloth and rounding it just a teensy bit out to the flat face, the problem is solved! Didn't even have to mess with the springs, which were in as delivered configuration.

Mucho thanks and good shooting to all!

Another happy customer! Great work.

The Search link is in the second blue line, right above the Sponsors Panel, by the way.
