I have my eyes on one of Colts 1911 Special Combat Gov't .45acp. I have not had one in hands and wondering if anyone here has one of these and if so what are your views on it.
Speak softly and carry a big bore.

I bought one a couple of months ago...the hard chromed version. The gun is very beautiful to look at, shoots really well, but I had a couple of issues with it as far as fit and finish go. Number one, the magwell grips, although beautiful, did not come down all the way flush against the top of the magwell, and the remaning gap is uneven. Number two, the ambi safety, when disengaged, does not rotate down far enough so as to engage the cylinder in the back end of the plunger tube into the socket on the safety. Number three, on the right side of the slide where it says "Colt Government Model", the lettering is slightly crooked - what I mean by that is, it is not parallel with the bottom or top of the slide. All of these things are very hard to notice when you first pick the gun up, but they are there nonetheless. The guy at the gun shop told me I was being "too picky", as a matter of fact. Anyway, I contacted Colt about the problems and they seem willing to make it right but I am told the turnaround time on the gun would be eight weeks, so I haven't done anything about any of this so far.
Does it affect function ? No, not at all - the gun is a lot of fun to shoot, has been reliable ( I have only put maybe 300 rounds through it) and is very accurate. Trigger pull was a little lighter than I am used to (Maybe in the 3 - 3.5 range) but is nice for the range, and very crisp with no creep whatsoever. It came with Chip McCormick mags (two 8 rounders with J&J bases) and I also have a CmC 10 round power mag I use with it that has never missed a beat.
Hope this helps.

Thanks dogdollar,
For the price it looks like a deal. I was pondering on buying another Wilson, when I came across the Colt. For the money it looks like a good buy. I have several gold cups and really like the quality you get for the price. But my favorite of the bunch is my 2 wilsons. What the heck, I think I am going to go ahead and pick up the Colt. It will make a nice addition to my collection. It has a nice set of sights and a custom trigger job and the test target shows it shoots pretty well. Ah! another pony in the stable is always welcome.

You guys already saw this beauty, John... you even had commented that you couldn't believe it was hard chromed. Actually I think it was Hunter or Wichaka or someone who led me to buy it........it's an old Colt thread I had started called "need your advice" or something like that.
Anyway, here you go..................

I like the knife too. Most people fail to coordinate there knife and gun...you shouldn't let the two clash and ruin your outfit...wait, sorry, thought I was in Kalifornia for a moment.
Seriously though what type of knife is that?

It is a Cold Steel Black Talon............you don't EVER want to see this in a bad guy's hand........sharp as a straight razor.

About 300. Shoots VERY well..........this is a pistol that people considering one of the "premium" brands need to look at.

I have a Special Combat Government Model, O1980CM, in two tone which I'm quite fond of. (I've tried to post pic's but my employer has access to Photobucked blocked. I didn't want to get yelled at by the El Commandante!) I have not had the issues with my pistol that Dogdollar has had with fit or finish. Actually the fit and finish is the main reason I bought this gun. When holding it, it felt like a much more expensive pistol. At it shoots much better than I am. The only dissapointment I have with this gun is that the front strap is not checkered. It is quite slick after wiped with a silicon gun cloth. Checkering is offered by the Colt Custom Shop, and this is supposed to be a Custom Shop gun, only seems fitting for the package. I would also prefer the option of fixed sights, but the Bo-Mars are quite nice!

You know, Tommy....when I was thinking of buying this gun, I was picturing how nice it would look with those super deluxe Pachmayr grips...the ones with wood on the sides that wrap around the front with finger grooves. I haven't bought them yet, but think about that if you don't like the smooth steel. Those finger grooves are NICE.

Ditto! I have been thinking about doing the same thing...though .38 first...we'll go on from there.

I was thinking along the lines of the old original Colt/Pachmayr grips, all rubber with the Colt medallions, but I have been unable to locate any. I do think they would add to the overall contrast with the blue slide, nickel frame, rubber grips...kinda like Bill Wilsons original custom guns.
