Here is my brand new 2 hr old SPECIAL FORCES pistol. I took it apart to inspect it. Holy smokes, this one is built nice!
The trigger is superb, fit and finish is equally perfect. I can't find a thing wrong.
The pistol is super tight yet slides apart like it's totally worn out! I am very impressed with Ed Brown products. I'll get back after a live fire report. Sure hope it shoots well.

Here is a picture of it.

Very nice weapon indeed. I specifically like the alternative to checkering that Ed Brown, Kimber, etc. are presenting. Some checkering can be a bit much during prolonged sessions at the range.

Here is an update:
I been out this morning before the heavy rain got here and fired a few boxes of Federal 185gn match and a box of Winchester 230gn ball.
No malfunctions of any kind and when the first shot broke using 185gn it drilled a center hit on the bulls eye at 25 yards!
The 230gn ball did hit a little higher on the target but were centered and also a tight group. The Federal ammo grouped the tightest of my little shooting session. I tried 3 groups for bragging rights and after the third try got tired of shooting paper and turned to more exciting things to blast away at out to 50 yards.

The pistol is a keeper, no complaints at all except for high ammo expenses and range fees. 18 bucks an hour and nearly 50 bucks in ammo!

Here is one of my quick test targets, I'm sure it can do better with a good rest and young eyes. 1 1/2 inch group using Federal 185gn match ammo at 25 yards.

I have been thinking very seriously about getting an Ed Brown as my very first 1911. I am leaning toward the Special Forces, but I was also considering an Executive Elite. Could you please comment about the "chainlink" features on the grip? This is the only part that makes me think twice about that model right now.

Thank you very much.

Matt. The chain link grip feels good to me. It's not sharp as the pistol is nicely "melted" or de-burred. It gives it a unique look also. The other pistols they offer cost more but I got an excellent built pistol that I really like. I guess it depends what you like as far as cosmetics go. I have other pistols which are stainless that have the knurl on the grip. I was looking for something a little different. What sold this gun to me was the fixed Novak tritium night sights. I just like fixed sights on a 45. Also this one is not stainless.

I feel if you can go and see them in person, it will be better to buy what you really like as far as the look goes. All of Brown's pistols shoot the same according to his web site.

Ok, thank you. There is not a dealer that is near me, so I'm not really sure of how I could see one in person. By the looks of things, I think I would be well pleased with that model though.

I had initially thought that a Kimber Eclipse would be a good choice, but when I went to look at them, I noticed various differences between the guns at my local gun store. Some had really nice fits, and some had some play. I think that I would be much happier by just saving up a little longer, and purchasing a product that has what I consider to be good attention to detail. By all accounts that I've read, Ed Brown products exude that quality.
