I have just acquired a World War I Colt 45 1911 Military model. It was an officer issued gun. It was issued to a Major General. It has the original holster and I have the Major General's discharge papers. Does this history surrounding the gun add any value? The gun is in great condition.

If you have documentation tying the pistol by serial number to the General, it certainly does add to the value of the pistol. That said, virtually every Luger I ever bought was taken off a German officer.

I'll bet they were all at least field grade, too. :D

The more history you can gather about the general in question the better. Was he in any battles? Was he overseas? Pictures are also good. If it is not a relative of yours then you might contact any relatives he has. There might be some pictures that would add value to the pistol.
By the way this last action is hard. I sold one pistol for very little $ gain back to the grandson of the person who carried it in WWI.
