Great site: Well organized and I especially like the manufacturer-specific headings.

I have noticed something strange here for a firearms forum site; almost all of the postings seem to be by mature, literate adults! Even when people ask basic questions, every answer I have read has been knowledgeable, supportive, and withour any bashing or flaming. Even if the answer is just to re-direct them to another area, it's done politely. Kudos to John, the moderator(s), and the users.

I belong to several other firearms forums, but so far, this really is one of the best.

Keep up the great work.

Welcome to the forun Falcon576!

Yes, this is one of the best forums on the net. Highly informative folks here that love to help out anyway they can.

Gotta watchout for the Commandant though, he loves throwing them Euro pennies all over the place! :D

Welcome aboard. One rule that John has is "Pictures are desirable" (your gun, your car, your dog.... :))

Dear Mr. Stumbler,

why are you bad-mouthing your El Commandante?

I may always say "This thread is useless without pictures", but I do my share of using up your bandwidth, with my car, my dog or my guns.
...................

Wait a minute, I have never posted a picture of my guns here. And since I no longer have a dog.... , you can have a couple of pictures of my ... truck.

That's my wife, six months after giving birth to the twins.

What a show-off!!

P.S. : Somebody has to warn me for being off-topic.

I was trying to get a couple of pictures is all. No bad mouthing intended. (I know, I know, You don't have to tell me. I'm going back to my corner).:p

(geez, adults have all the fun:))

Thanks for the warm welcome. Proved my point regarding the class of those on the forum.

To Tuner: Have a Colt Series 70. Pretty plain and bone stock. Also have my Dad's old Lawman III. (One of these days he's going to ask for it back...)

Then there's the Kimber Pro CDP and a Para Ord Tac-S that's pretty customized. Lot's of other goodies in the safe... Some the wife knows about, others she doesn't.

I'm trying to figure out how to post some pictures... I'm barely computer saavy enough to get on the forum. My wife has a digital camera and the know-how, but then she'd know about some of the toys I "don't have".

Looking forward to getting know all on the forum!

:D

I just joined this forum a few weeks ago, and have found it to be a great resource for all thing 1911 and beyond. I've learned a few things, helped a few folks, and made a friend. I've posted a few pics of my gun, and I lost my dog more than a year ago, but I now feel obligated to post a photo of my truck! :D

Posting photos: consult the FAQ at the top.

PaulX608: That's a Mercedes, isn't it? If Mercedes hears you calling their 4x4 a truck, they'll commit suicide! That's a limo, with some extra height! LoL

Yes John, it's a 2001 ML430. And while it is nice and luxurious inside, you should see the illustrations in the owner's manual! They give pointers on fording standing water up to 20 inches deep, descending steep rocky grades, and there's even one drawing which depicts one of these things negotiating a large stump! Pretty funny stuff. Maybe in other parts of the world, but not very many people here would ever do those things in one of these.

I bet you not too many owners of these MLs take them off-road at all. At least here in Greece, I've never seen one in our excursions. To see my other truck (and some nice pics of the Greek country side) visit http://www.m1911.org/trucks.htm.

Hey, that would look good on the hood of MY red truck - the 99 Z-71. Does she do European cars, too? Women dig my 87 Bimmer...sometimes.

Oh...wait a minute...this is the grownup forum...and I am married! What am I saying?

Jeez! Well, we're adults MOST of the time, anyways.

Bimmer? She does not pose with toy cars. Maybe if you had a Hummer.

And if that Z-71 is not lifted, you do not stand a chance.

I have made about 30 postings in several manufacturers threads and the responses have always been outstanding, informative, and educational.

Nice having a home to get objective & thoughtful info on a hobby, and toy(s), we all obviously enjoy.

My salute to all involved :)

I have been to some other forums and I am most impressed with this one! As a matter of fact, this whole series of sites are great. I have given this site address to some of my gun buddies. I research every thing to death and this is becoming my most frequent hit. The forum is easy to move around in. And the pictures!!!!! Please!! Please, keep up the good work!
God Bless!

Whew, finally back here..

Only if it's lifted, John? I have a '98 Silverado with a 6" lift, how much are plane tickets anyway? ;)

Thanks for the pics, John. A beautiful family indeed. Nice water crossing too, by the way.

Happy shooting.

This post is useless without pictures (I have to put that in a function key in my computer, so that I do not have to type it again and again). Let's see that Silverado!!

And here, you can see the rest of the gang, with THEIR 4x4 LoL

He is already trying to lift it.

Come on now...we all know that H2s and lift kits are worthless.

Everybody I know that has lifted their trucks to these crazy heights has lived to regret it. It makes the truck handle worse than they already do, you have alignment issues and the cost of worse mileage and cost of those noisy big tires and the pain in the butt for all that have to climb in and out of the thing. Its hell to get an ATV or motorcycle out of the back and harder to tow a trailer and you cannot see the thing, when you back up.

Sure, it looks cool at the beach and cruising around, but its not worth it, if you work your truck and have to drive it on the streets as I do. Not practical...as a parttime Volvo guy...I love practical.

H2s? Come on now...those are for the "look at me" crowd. No thank you. Most of those folks never go off road or see dirt or pull anything. Ditto for the Range Rover guys...just status posers, thats all.

The BMW 325 is hardly a toy and it is likely that it...along with my two Volvos...will still be running while the status SUVs and Jap cars are in the crusher. Their durability and utility make them sexy...not their size or shape.

Besides...you know what the women really say about guys that HAVE to drive big jacked up trucks/Hummers...don't you? Making up for some shortcomings, eh?

LOL

It all depends on how pationate you are with your truck my friend. My Cherokee stands at +5" at the moment, and it drives just fine on pavement, plus it gives me the ability to go in places a normal Cherokee wouldn't even dream. Admitedly, I've spend quite some money in bringing it to this condition, but I find it's worth it. And I do not drive mine on the beaches, I prefer the mountains.

Higher gas consumption? Yes, that's true, but that's a decision you make, if you feel like it.

As for the H2, I agree with you, poseurs mainly. But, I said Hummer, not H2 (baby-Hummer), remember? And I meant it as a figure of speach, of course, because a Hummer (be it either the traditional one or the H2) is next to useless in Greece. We don't have the streets or the off-road tracks to use such a wide beast. Full-size trucks are not for Greece.

Now, as for the BMW, I wouldn't be sure about it. Yes, they are excellent cars, and some years ago, I would love to have one, but I do not see too many 20 years old Beemers around here. My Cherokee has just matured at 20 years of age.

As for your last comment, you may be right, I do not know what the girls say in US, too many trucks there, every yuppie and every soccer mom has to have one, be it either a H2 or a CRV. I assume that lowered trucks are more in fashion with these people. I frankly do not care, I enjoy my truck the way it is, in places where not too many girls are around. Also, I know for sure, what one girl thinks about lifted trucks and their relation to other shortcomings. She is here in Greece, and her opinion is all I care about.

Love the site. Haven't been here long but have learned a great deal in a short time. Someone has invested a lot of hard work in putting this site together. Has got to be a labor of love. Many thanks from a new member.
