This is probably a DUMB question, so please be kind in your response.
I have a fairly nice 1911 on the way, but it has a 1911a1 MSH. I have a 1911 MSH to change it out.
Is this a really big deal to change, or do I just knock out the pin, slide out the old, insert the new, replace pin, go to the range :lm:
Yes, I will post pix as soon as it's fixed.

It is very simple to change from an arched mainspring to a flat, or vice versa. If you go to the main page there are insturctions for detail stripping the gun, follow those to change the housings. Here's a link to the instructions (http://m1911.org/full_striping.htm)

Ah, do you have a complete MSH to replace the one in your pistol? With all the internals? If not, you have to transplant the internals to the flat MSH. Easy job, just be careful, because the Mainspring is under tension, don't ask how many times it has flew away in "the never to be found again" land, when 1911 users pretend to be gunsmiths. Just ask my wife!

Thanks Guys. I thought that was the way that it works, and yes the flat MSH already has the internals, thank goodness, that is a strong spring. I pushed on it with a punch and it went down into the MSH, but it was a hard push. Thanks, again. Love this web site. Mark
