I just got my GC Trophy yesterday, ran a dry patch through the bore, put the 16 lb recoil spring it it and loaded it with 230 gr. FMJ. The feel and accuracy were amazing right away, but I didn't make it through the clip before the hammer followed through.

Tonight, I stipped it again and then followed the manual's steps for trigger adjustment. Reluctantly (I hate this, especially on a new gun), I let the slide fly forward on an empty chamber to check and the hammer still followed through.

What am I doing wrong? I loved the thing for the few times it fired, but this is a bummer! Please Help!

Did you buy it new or used? It sounds like a sear bounce. Does your GCT have the factory aluminum trigger? It also could be the sear spring is out of spec. Folks will tamper with the sear and sear spring looking for a better trigger pull and will create a problem such as yours. I have run countless rounds through my factory Trophy and she has never missed a beat. If it is new I would replace the sear spring and be sure the sear and hammer is in spec. I am sure Colt will help you out.

Do a quick test.

Repeat the slide drop, and follow these steps.

Slide in-battery...Thumb-cock the hammer and dry-fire the gun. Don't release the trigger. Hold it back. Rack the slide and release, like a slingshot
reload. If it doesn't follow, lock the slide to the rear...pull the trigger and hold it. Release the slide with the slidestop. If it doesn't follow, the trigger is nudging the disconnect and rolling the sear out of the hammer hooks, and probably a little sear bounce is contributing to it. Increase forward tension
on the center leaf of the spring and retest without holding the trigger back.
If it follows, increase tension on the far left sear spring leg to get a little more tension on the sear...and retest without holding the trigger. If it still bounces, install a new 23# mainspring.

If it follows with the trigger pulled and held, there's a problem with one or more of the main three parts in the fire control group. Hammer...Trigger...or Disconnect.

Thanks so much for your quick replies! I did buy the pistol new, but it sounds like it might have to do back to Colt.

That may be the best bet but you could install a new sear spring and see if that fixes your problem. It would be an inexpensive chance and if it does fix it you are not without your Colt during repairs. the Gold Cup National Matches have a steel trigger and and an extra sear depressor leg and spring to prevent just as you described. The Trophy has a lighter aluminum trigger so the extra parts are not needed but it the sear spring had too little tension it could still cause hammer follow. Just a thought.

If you do send it back to Colt, be sure and send your shipping receipt and a letter to Colt Customer Service in a separate letter. They'll reimburse you for the cost of sending the pistol to them after the repair order gets into their system. Oh, and double check the address when they send your confirmation letter for the repairs--Colt keyed my zip code in wrong and it caused all kinds of problems with UPS returning my pistol! Good luck!

Thanks so much for your quick replies! I did buy the pistol new, but it sounds like it might have to do back to Colt. From what 1911Tuner and Hunter have said, I'm sure that the problem with your GCT is minor, but it's certainly frustrating on a brand new gun.

Since you are relatively new to the forum though, I just wanted to make sure you know that Mark Roberts, Colt's Director of Sales and Marketing, has a user ID on this forum: mark1648. You can send him a private message through the forum or through his his regular e-mail address: mroberts@colt.com. Also, his office phone number is (860) 244-1388 and his cell phone is (860) 716-4812.

Although the Customer Service folks are great, Mark's a good guy to contact if you feel that you need to talk to someone else at Colt about the problem.
