I have an opportunity to purchase a 1929 Commercial Gov't Model. 80-90% finish with all original parts. What would a reasonable price be? Any signs to look for?

Thanks

The first thing to check is to see that the serial number on the slide matches the frame. Government Models are not highly collectible unless in top condition, and I would expect to see an 80 to 90% 1929 time frame Government Model in the $1000 price range if all original. The price could vary depending on how close it is to 80% or 90%.

Where is the serial number on the slide of a commercial Colt?

If you check under the firing pin stop you should see the number you are looking for.
