The NRA marking is found below the serial number on the right side of the pistol. Stamped: N.R.A. There is a photo in Clawson's Collector's Guide on page 30. Do you have any pictures? Do you know the serial number of the pistol in question?

The serial number is 127???.The NRA is stamped below serial number . The NRA stamp looks smaller and bunched up closer together than others I've seen in pictures of NRA marked 1911s .

Are 13 known 127xxx NRA pistols. 4th production block, late 1915. A total of 95 SA pistols are presently known, and the serial numbers above are in the range you mention. Do you see yours listed? ;)

Some of the N.R.A. stamps were applied forward of the slide stop pin hole on the right side of the frame above the trigger guard also, like the one applied to #127915, and also below the serial number as you mentioned on some. Mr. Clawson states that there are 95 SA pistols presently known, the list of serial numbers I posted are from a list of known serial numbers within that range (127xxx), and the list is not inclusive. There were pistols used in the 125567 - 127979 range, not consecutively numbered. It is possible that your pistol could be legitimate, but does not appear on the known list. Keep in mind that there are 95 SA's known and the list contains only 56 known SA serial numbers.

Beware of fakes, since these rare versions are desirable, and only sold in limited numbers from 1914 - 1917. Compare questionable pistols with known examples is my best advise.

You are 100% correct. What I was referring to was the 4th production block of SA pistols for the NRA was initiated in late 1915. SA serial number 125567 is the beginning of that block (1916) and 127978 the end (1917). Thanks Johnny for the clarity regarding his pistol.

The pistol appears to be the real thing from the pictures, and certainly falls into the correct serial number range. It could very well be one of the other 39 SA pistols known to exist. :)
