Gentlemen,Hunter, OD*;

My plan was never to get a GC but with all the nice pictures on this site and our Colt pusher (Hunter) it's hard to ignore them. Any way I figure out that one GC in a Colt collection won't hurt. So my question is, if I shall have only one GC...which one should I try to get ser. 70, 80, or the new trophy????

I just found a series 80 in commander with enhanced grip safety, BNIB.
Is that gun something that should be considered. Are the commander GC good shooters eventhough shorter? What is it's approx. value??

What do you think???? :)

Thanks

Gold cup commanders seem to bring a premium here lately. I have a SS custom edition one and love it. FWIW a blue one recently sold on one of the auction sites for just under 2 grand...... :D

Oh boy, that is a toughie!
Man, I don't know, those Trophy's are pretty dang sharp.
If it were me, I think I would get the nicest one I could afford, regardless of variation. Heck, it don't matter no how, y'all won't stop with one anyway (not with Hunter hangin' around here). :D

You would do well with any Colt you have mentioned.

I agree with yall. I really really really want a Gold Cup Commander (in nothing more than the cool factor) but I have never shot one. The one I was looking at on gunbroker hit $2200 when I decided that was a little too much for me now and starting looking at a Gold Cup IX that went for about the same. I think Radar is right any you mentioned will be an excellent pistol. I do love my Trophy as a regular range pistol. Let us know which one you wind up with. I looked at a few Series 70 GCNM today at the Raleigh gunshow. There were 3 there and all were over $1100. Good shape but not perfect.

Hi guys,Hunter,

Here is a picture of the Commander. What I would like to know is if it's must buy (because it's rare, expensive ect) or I could let it pass to buy a Government?

Thanks to all,

It's a must buy if you like it. If you're a 1911 fan I doubt it would be your last one and it would be an excellent first one. Sometimes I just go with how I feel about it. (that gets me in a lot of trouble too, but we only live once right?)

That one is pretty nice. If you got the means than I would get it. The full size Gold Cups will be easier to find when you decide to get another and probably cheeper. I have plans to have one myself but my checkbook is still wounded after the last 2 Colts I bought. I have only seen the Gold Cup Commanders on gunbroker so I have no first hand experience with them. I imagine they are excellent pistols.

Hi OD*,

While OK corral is in Tombstone AZ, I am in Canada and unless the free trade agreement hides something I don't know I cannot buy from the USA :( (at least not easily). Unless you meant that you'll check the price for comparison purpose then yes, if it's not too much trouble I would appreciate...

Always a pleasure, :)

Thanks

I am also curious as to what the Gold Cup Commander is going for if you don't mind.

Gotcha, forgot about you being in the Great White North.

I'm pretty familiar with Tombstone, we owned land there and the wife and I were married right next to Lot #2, Block 17. ;)

Hunter, why should I mind. You answer (nicely) to so many e-mails....

If it is not sold the guy who sells it wants around $1275.00 US. I think it's fair??

Hunter

Well it is your thread and I do not want to step on anyone's toes here. That $1275 sounds fair to me if it is in good shape.

I've been there too. Like I said in an earlier post my father came to north America for the Western History and Colts-Winchesters. Besides having crossed the USA many times in all directions, his favourite place is Arizona. He enjoys sleeping at Goulding, I think it' at Monument Valley.

I remember that post, that he was a history buff.
When we were married, I told Nita if I ever remarried, it would say Tombstone on the licence, she went for it. ;)

Thanks OD I didn't figure you would mind. How is it you can work at a gun store? I had dreams of running one but I would never make any money. If anyone came in to buy a Colt I would (politely of course) ask them to leave. Colts are for display only not for sale, but then I reckon there are other pistol manufactures though none come to mind.

Luckily Hunter, I don't work there during the summer (very slow months in a gunshop), will return this fall for hunting season. It's hard amigo, we have a customer who has brought in a number of NIB Colt's to place on consignment, it's very hard amigo, I'm still in-debt to the shop. ;)

I had the chance to hire on at a local gun shop as part time help mainly dealing with the public. I thought about it a few days and decided against it. I was afraid I was too opinionated to be good help. Colt 1911s, Ruger wheelguns, and Winchester rifles (I must include Savage as well) is what I prefer and that would influence my advice. I only imagined myself there and someone walked in to buy a Glock. Besides they sell very few Colts there anyway. The closest gun store to me keeps Colts there and they sell pretty good now if I had the chance to hire on with them that would be another story all together.

Vatican City is in Rome. It's an old inside joke that started on another discussion board 'casue I'm Catholic. ;)

Col. Cooper was sometimes referred to as the Pope.
