Mr. Holbrook,

I'm sure that I speak for many on this Forum when I say that anytime I see a thread started by John Holbrook, I can count on seeing quality Colts at their best. Thank you again, Sir, for all of the outstanding photographs that you have shared with us.

Nice super .38 Mr. Holbrook. Does it have an LEO background?

I don't know yet. I sent for a letter from Colt. Many pre-war Supers were carried by LEOs. The Texas Rangers and county sheriffs used them.

This example has been carried and shows the typical wear and small scratches that are typical of LEO use. I always research any Super I come across...

Colt developed the Super 38 for use in a modified M1911 pistol. It is a modified 38 ACP cartidge originally intended for the M1900 (also by Mr. Browning) but souped up for penetrating the bulletproof vests and automobile bodies of the time, so that is why it probably has a LEO background if it was made in the 1920's.
