I replaced the rear sight leaf pin on my Colt Gold Cup, series 80. Elliason sight.
The new pin is not factory and it is not snug.
Occasionally I have to tap the pin back in place.
Question: will this loose leaf pin affect the accuracy of my pistol?
Should I replace this pin with a factory pin? Or does the loose pin have a minimal effect on accuracy?

(split on one side) take it out and tap a small screwdriver or knife blade down the split to spread it some and try it againhttp://forum.m1911.org/images/icons/icon7.gif

I would get a solid pin of the same diameter and length and replace it with that. All my Colts have solid pins in the Elliason rear sight. In my opinion the Elliason rear sight is as good as you can get.

If you cannot find a factory pin, drill rod is your friend.
Get the closest size larger than you need and polish it down to the desired dimension.
Even chucking a small piece in a drill press and polishing will get a decent pin.

Drill rod is the best replacement. The trick is getting it to stay in place. Fit the drill rod into the sight and slide. Next use a brass drift of the appropriate size to bend the replacement rod. You do this by hitting the rear sight with the drift (or punch) directly over the rod. This will drive the sight body down, bending the pin. Once bent in this manner, the pin can't fall out of the slide. I have had to fix all of my Gold Cups in this manner.
