:D I am in the market for another 1911 and would like to get some feedback on which gun other members would rather own. I have $1000 bucks to spend and want to get all my money can buy. Would you rather have a GSR or a Kimber Custom II?

I love my SGR Revolution... a little more than 2k rounds through it... perhaps 6 failures to feed-- partially fed... simple tap on magazine fixed 5 of the 6... the 6th was cleared with a tap, rack, flip (2 occurred together and the other 4 together-- during different trips to Nevada)...
All occurred using a grease (TW-25b and Wilson Ultima Lube), not an oil, after a field strip cleaning, and all after 200 or so rounds... in the Nevada desert... dusty, windy and with dirty, cheap ammo. Both times the issue was "fixed" with a few drops of OIL... I usually go 300-800 rounds between cleanings, as I work as a Handgun Instructor and actually have little time to clean/maintain MY weapon while working. I usually use Militec-1 or Lucas gun oil... however, I will be trying Gun Butter soon!

The last time was 15 minutes before I shot the Handgun Combat Master test. So, I locked open the slide, ran a .40 cal bore snake through it (my .45 snake was in my bag), and I put 3 drops of Breakfree in the exposed slide groves where the frame rails ride... racked it several times to spread the lube... and... zero issues for 400 more rounds! The weapon ran fine through the test... can't say that I did... I did keep it in the double digits... albeit not my best performance (first time shooting the test with a 1911... first 2 times were with my Glock 22). I do hope to pass this test in September!
Back on topic: I would by another GSR without reservations... Now that Kimber has gone back to internal extractors... I would not hesitate to get a Kimber. I like the fact that the GSR has ZERO MIM parts... good or bad. :dead_hors
You can't go wrong either way.
Just my $0.25 worth of info and opinion.

In my opinion Sig makes one of the best out of the box double action single action defense handguns in the world. The thing is they just started with the 1911 line.
In time I believe Sig will compete with the kimbers, para's and springfields with there 1911's but, for now Kimber is a much better choice. Get a Kimber TLE II new for around $800 and then send it to Wilsons for some wistles and bells. Maybe a magwell or a handfitted barrel and bushing. Even with the extras you could probably stay within your budget and end up with one serious 1911. Next year send the slide in for some novak sights and you are way ahead of the sig.

Then again a straight Custom II will run you $629-650. I have a 2006 production Custom II with the internal extractor and it runs flawlessly since round #1.

You are right the Custom is a fine gun. However if you are deciding between the Sig and the Kimber and you have a $1000 budget why not go for the front strap checkering and the night sights offered on the TLE? This would be more comparable to the features offered on the Sig. Either way Kimber gives you several more options then Sig and you get your money's worth.

thanks for the advise guys. I came to the conclusion that the Kimber Eclipse Target II is the one for me.
One thousand bucks with target night sights, unique stainless, and strap checkering. Pretty cool deal i think. I am looking for insight on durability issues with the Kimber II vs the Revolution.
