Hello, just found a RR 1911a1 ser# 14381XX. Everything looks good except for the color of the parkerizing. Doesn't have the grey/green color I have seen on most RR's. Its more of a dark grey like a 1944 Colt I have. Any thoughts on this problem.
Thanks

Is that gun in the Dulite range?

Parkerizing began around the 1M serial range. The green/gray appearence is usually the result of storage in cosmolene or effects of certain oils/solvents on the finish. Verify the known after finish markings are present, the feed ramp, and wear patterns. Will careful observation you should be able to determine if the finish is original or not.

exitwounds is exactly right about the color. That dark gray COULD be the original color IF the pistol was essentially not used it's entire service life and stored clean. Not many like that but they do exist. It could also be a refinish.
