I have a parkerized 1911 A1 that's marked Ithaca Gun Co., Inc. on the left side of slide and Model 1911 AI U.S.ARMY on the right. The frame is marked with an AA on left and No 478XXX on right. The trigger is the longer 1911 style, and the tail on the grip safety is short like a 1911. Is this a typical Augusta Arsenal refurbish or some one else's modification?

You have a 1918 Colt 1911 frame with an Ithaca 1911A1 replacement slide. Is your pistol parkerized and have plastic grips? The finish should match in most cases and the AA applied after the finish. Sounds like a typical WW II era rebuild. Pictures would help in determining.

These legitimate rebuilds have their own collecting niche and are getting more expensive all the time.

M1911a1 slides that were marked Model of M1911 a1 U.S. Army on the right side were replacement slides and were not original issue with the pistol as shipped from the manufacturer, except on some early issue Ithacas. Ithaca got behind in their 1943 production and were allowed to ship pistols with replacement slides as original issue.
