Just got this email. Of course the anticipation is getting worse.

Hi Baxter,

Your pistol is built and should be prepped Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. We should have it test fired and ready to ship by the end of following week.

This is an estimate, but it is the best I can do.

Thanks,

Mark Stone

Forgot to mention that this is Predator I ordered with no forward cocking serrations, no roll mark, Novak night sights, Nighthawk coco bolo grips, and a 3.5 trigger. Black PermaKote finish.

I can imagine John fuming right now over another Nightahwk delivery....

Well, in my experience, the pistol will arrive on the day they say it will. That ought to make you feel good this weekend, eh? :)

It arrives Tuesday. Maybe Monday. I will have to try and scrounge a digital camera for John. This is getting intense!

These threads should come with a drool warning!
Of course we expect all the gratuitous photos in due time as well!!!! ;)

Well, the pistol arriving is a full size Predator with no roll marks, no rear of the slide checkering, a slide stop end chamfered and flush like the GRP, and the rear sights opened up a bit to see more daylight between the front sight and the rear. Getting the coco bolo Nighthawk grips, a trigger set to 3.5 lbs (should lighten up as she breaks in) and took advantage of the 6 mags for $99 deal. It has Novak night sights but a nice small front tritium dot and the rear is a vertical tritium bar. The only thing I wish I might have added to the order would be a very gentle bevel/melt and maybe some VZ red Nighthawk grips.
I may order some Nighthawk leather, any thoughts on that?

Hi. Looking at the NH catalog, the leather seems a bit pricey. I think you are paying for the logo. There are similar styled cheaper holsters availible...Pappy

There's a logo-less holster for $109 in the catalog, about $100 cheaper.

Forgot to mention in this thread that the weapon does not have forward cocking serrations either.

Can someone please point me to a thread where I can find a holster similar to the $109.00 Nighthawk catalog holster that is a "straight drop" rather than an FBI cant. I can't wear the pistol behind my hip bone because of pressure on the scaitic nerve. I have to position the pistol forward of my hip bone and this requires a straight drop holster. TMI, I know. The holster maker who debited my credit card has yet to deliver after 8 weeks and has yet to answer my email of a week ago. Now, I am looking at a Yaqui Slide, belt and paddle, by various maunfacturers. I am open any and all suggestions. I hate middle age. Thanks y'all.

Contact these guys, tell them your situation, they'll make you a holster that will make carrying a gun like carrying an American Express card. You won't leave home without it. :D

OK, just laid eyes on it tonight. Will try to have pics up soon. First impression is that it is everything I thought it would be. Tight but not too tight. Nice little undercut under the trigger guard for my smaller hand that is fit and finished simply beautifully. The 3.5lb trigger feels perfect. The PermaKote looks and feels great, I think it's a great rust-free alternative to blueing. 1 obvious machine/tool mark on the inside but no others to be found. Action feels like it's on ball bearings. I shoot it Saturday even though I'm on my 10 day waiting period. I have a wide array of ammo to test through it, any recommendations for Predators would be welcome.

Question: aren't magwells standard?

LittleLebowski..

You're going to love that Predator!

I've got about 200 rounds through mine (can't get to the range with a newborn) and it's now shooting a little over an inch at 15yards. Seems to work well with 200 gr SWC from Miwall (a little smokey, though) or handloads (230 gr Winchester/4.9 gr Bullseye).
The trigger travel to reset is still a little rough, but a whole lot better than when it first arrived. I'm sure it just needs the 500 round break-in period and it'll be fine.

Congrats on the new arrival!

I probably need to see a few pics of this new toy........and I'll install my keyboard drool shield prior to viewing.

Magwells are not California approved...grrrr. Pictures coming soon. I'll be breaking it in Saturday with well over 500 roudns if my trigger finger can take it :D

Hi Little.
If you were to add a magwell, then your pistol is illegal?? Wonder what the thought is behind that...Pappy

Pappy,

I believe the dealer mentioned that here in California, the some of the models were "approved" without the magwells on them. Shipping them from the factory differently in any other way constitutes a different gun which needs to be submitted and approved. Lots of time, paperwork and bucks. The magwells, however, may be available as an "aftermarket option"?

Pretty dang silly if you ask me.

LittleLebowski

What's really silly is that the color/finish matters to California as well. A nickel Python is legal but not a blued one. No kidding.

I may ship it back to have a magwell fitted but I first need to make it through the waiting period and shoot the fire out of her :D Plus it doesn't look like I'll have too many problems with loading anyway.

I'm debating on the name for it. Probably either "Sam" or "V" (as in V for Vendetta). I only name my special guns. Have another 1911 named Delia and my brother has an Accuracy International AW named Matilda. My FN SPR is named Eva.

What a cool idea..I never thought of naming my favorites! How did you come up with those? I can see Matilda for the AW..weighs a ton and it's not something I'd want to carry over a long distance. But what a rifle!

Hopefully I'll get a chance to head to range and run some more rounds through my Predator this weekend. It gets better and better the more I shoot it!
