Hey Everyone,

Just joined this afternoon, this is a great site! I own several 1911's but I just came across one that Ive always wanted but could never justify due to price. Went to a little gun shop and there sat a Colt 1911a1 Sn#1143xxx with some funky see through grips on it. So my question is what are the proper grips(hollow vs. reinforced plastic?) and would one of the experts on this board tell me what markings and or things I should look for to see if it is correct as issued. Oh yeah I paid 560 + fees which is another reason I grabed it up. Is anyone familar with the see through stocks on it. I havent seen them in the past but that doesnt mean much seeing that Im a ripe old 26 years young. Any comments are much apprieciated.

From sn 795000 to the end of production, Type II, Coltwood plastic, drab brown in color, with strengthening ribs and wide rings around the screw holes. You can find an example of them at www.coolgunsite.com .

Thanks guys, got the grips ordered. The Grips don't have any hotties underneath just some hardened cosmoline. They are just clear plastic grips, quite hideous really. I was also wondering about other markings or #'s that I should look for on the gun and also what kind of price do these babies command. Not that I want to sell it just curious is all. Thanx again guys!
