Hi,
I just got an e-mail from a Vancouver gun dealer ( I think some of you might refer to him has a gunshop Commando ) that's worth reading...
Exact quote______________________________
John,
Thanx for the email but Colt has gone out of business. Any merchandise you are going to find will be on a retailers shelf. I have nothing here to help you.
Thanx for the email,

You should forward him Colts number. 1 800 962 Colt. Tell him to ask for Kathy she will get him straight she has helped me with another ignorant gunstore commando.

Do dealers in Canada who "can't get Colts", or think "Colt is out of business" have shelves full of Kimbers, like they do here in the states? I swear, there is a mysterious correlation between "Kimber Master Dealer" and "No Colts".

There used to be a Les Baer stocking dealer near me. When I called they told me the LB was far inferior to the Kimber and that they had lots of Kimbers in stock, any of which outperform a LB and that a LB would take 1 & 1/2 years to receive.
I think what it amounts to is dealer markup is greater on a Kimber than on a LB or perhaps a Colt.

The few dealers I have had trouble with Colt always had a wheel barrel full of Kimbers that they were pushing. I would think as well that they make the most money on Kimbers and that is fine until they start influencing folks over what they want. You should be able to buy what you want to have not what the dealer wants you to have.

After speaking with that dealer a couple times and coming to my own conclusion that they were a bit less than truthful I got a Rock River Arms Limited Match, a Les Baer Premier 2 and my Kimber Custom Eclipse (and a few other firearms) from another dealer. He may not be a stocking dealer, but he has never been less than 100% truthful with me.

Stop rubbing it in;-) Also when you send a picture of one of your guns, why do you make us drool by leaving the other guns behind...it's like if I sent you a picture of myself among 20 chipendales

No, I'm a social worker.
I just take pics where ever is most convenient and that is usually where the guns 'live' most of the time.
Now about this pic of yours...............

Same here...at my shooting club they told me that I would have to wait a full year for a LB and that I had to pay the whole amount in advance...

True!! Most gun stores I go to are pushing Kimbers. They too have Colts but is saying that Colt is inferior to Kimbers' 1911s. Of course Colt is still up and running.

I am one of those women that gets really annoyed when I'm lied to or about. It really isn't that hard to be truthful. Wouldn't it be easier to say: Yes I can get you a LB or RRA or whatever and this would be the price, let me call them and get an approximate delivery time frame. I also have these Brand X guns over here I'll show you while I'm making these calls.

You make perfect sense Joni but you must understand the mentality you are dealing with. Sometimes the easiest and best solution will illude the ignorant especially when profit is involved. Man that almost sounds like deep thinking. Moderator please edit my post accordingly :D

How fortunate I am that I've been able to recently acquire the exact Colts that I wanted. If I had a dollar for every time that I've heard that Colt has gone "belly-up", I'd buy another Colt. :D

I'm with you. As an example, I had my house stuccoed (?). The way I decided who would get the job was:
1) I calculated the square footage of the outside of my house
2) Went to the phone book and called contractors to give me a bid
3) First contractor that CORRECTLY calculated the square footage of my house won the bid!
The 5th contractor got the job--and I made sure to tell him why he got the job. Amazingly, the first four over estimated my square footage (shocked I tell you, I was shocked!).
I am just stubborn enough that once lied to, that is it for me for life.

Pitiful that there are "dealers" out there that either have no idea whatsoever about their chosen profession or are so dishonest as to claim one manufacturer is defunct in order to push another's product. But, that's the real world.

This guy's problem is a common one. Plenty of people are under the impression that Colt's been out of business.
