My NIB SS Gold Match is 24 hours old....I shot around 25 rnds just to see if its working - No hang ups using Kimber mag!

Question-
As I am new to hand guns, how far do you dissemble the gun for a basic cleaning? Following the manual for field stripping, I have the slide off with all springs, guides and plugs in one piece. ;)
Is there ever a need to go beyond this routinely? According to a dissemble/reassemble guide I downloaded from here, the next step would be to work on the firing pin assembly. This is, presently, above my skills.

Other than cleaning and oiling, what else is there to be done?
I purchased an inexpensive "Hoppe's 9" pistol cleaning kit substituting the oil for Militic-1 weapons grade oil.

Lastly, what is used on the surface of the slides? oil? or something else to bring out the beauty of the gem?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like you are off to a good start. Taking the slide off and removing the barrel, guide rod, recoil spring, etc. is plenty for general cleaning. At least that is all that I do. Get it clean and put on a thin coat of oil, that's it.

By the way, if you've gone this far you could do the rest with ease. It's no more difficult than what you have already done. No need though until it's time to replace something.

I'm using Break Free. I don't see that mentioned much any more. I'm wondering if I should look for something new.

I'm using Shooters Choice FP-10. I don't know if its any better than regular gun oil.

There are many things out there and opinions, but Break Free works!
