If a US PROPERTY pistol has an arsenal rework stamp, like SA, is it unusual to have frame and slide made by two different manufacturers? For example, an Ithaca frame with a US&S slide? I guess my question is, is a mixed maker pistol with a rework stamp an OK gun? Does such a pistol differ in desireability from a "mixmaster" pistol assembled by Joe Schmoe with a grab bag of parts? Thanks very much for your time and thoughts.

It is not uncommon to find them that way, or with a mixture of 1911 and 1911A1 parts depending upon when the pistol was rebuilt. Typically, the finish should match on the slide and frame, and the rebuild stamps applied after the finish. It is also not uncommon to find a pistol with more than one rebuild stamp, typically the most recent rebuild stamp will be applied after the finish. Not all repair arsenals/depots applied rebuild stamps. From what I have seen the market value is typically higher on most arsenal rebuilt pistols especially with documentation.
