US Military 1911 gurus...here's some data on a pistol that I am thinking about buying. I need your help to assess if it's worth the $800 asking price.
- On the slide, it has the Colt patent information.
- On the slide, it also has "Springfield Armory" stamped.
- It has the Eagle clutching the olive branch.
- It as the ordnance flaming bomb.
- No rebuild markings found...finish looks original.
- No "U.S. Property" markings (could be scrubbed).
- Circa 1918 based on the 246402 serial number.
- Metal is about 50% with beginnings of patina.
- No rust or pits.
- Grips are good plus.
- Bore is good plus.
- Functions and is mechanically sound.
Given that the serial number points to a 1918 mfg., it would seem that this is a Springfield Armory slide on a Colt frame? Thoughts?
