hi new guy here
i had no idea the norinco 1911 was held in such high esteem!!although i shouldnt be suprised as i own norinco sks's, m1a's,shotguns, etc. and all perform as well or better than guns thrice the price my question is :is there any difference in the early US imports and the guns available on the canadian market today(ie Marstar)cause they are priced sweet
btw i"ve dealt with john at marstar and have nothing but good to say

From what I have seen quality may have gone up, certainly not gone down. They are great guns I have three, two of which have been tuned for ego and better sights.

About the only real compaint I have heard about Norinco guns was a batch of M1A's that had soft receivers.

I've only met one guy up here who has one, and he was some pleased. Like a new dad. I had the op to pop off a few, and it seemed to shoot okay for a 450$ CDN pistol. Was no showgirl, and the cheap plastic grips should be left out with the trash, but put the rounds downrange just fine.

If the trigger was crisp at around 4 lbs. that save you about $80. Cdn I think. What kid of grip safety did it have? Beavertail? You can get them with the trigger job for $400 - $425 everyday as you know, new. The thumb safety is no big deal as the ones they come with aren't really all that bad. Mine on one gun had some sharp endges other than that it was fine. Sounds like it is in the ball park. They are great guns, my three are very good shooters and better now that two of them have new sights. All have had trigger jobs on them.

sorry bout the late reply, been hard after a good whitey(packing my m1a i might add!) anyway... ya beavertail and also commander style hammer, trigger felt GREAT but just comparing to my GI colt,i liked the ex thumb saftey as ihave smaller hands Bob not sure what you meant?i can or cant get a norinco everyday for $400 - $425 with a trigger job?
anyways offered $400+tax we'll see!

$400+ tax is a good price with a trigger job. I know a good trigger job is worth $80 most places up our way. Go for it, the guns are great. I don't think you will be sorry.

On my Commander I went with a tritium novak front and a novak fixed in the rear. If done properly I don't see a problem with fixed sights if you are not bullseye shooting. For IDPA/IPSC I think fixed sights are just fine.
On my A1 that is at Dlask I went with Heinie tritium front sight and heinie plain rear sights. I got them on ebay for a good price. Dlask sell s a copy of the Novak adjustable sight for $125.
I am not sold on adjustable sights really if fixed will shoot POA at 15 yards. Not sure for defensive purposes if it matters if I hit my assailant in his belly button or his sternum, he is going to be in a world of hurt either way. At IDPA/IPSC distances I am not sure it makes much difference. I guess it depends on personal preference and how good a pistol shot you think you are.
What part of Alberta are you from. I grew up in Edmonton, went to Bonnie Doon HIgh.

growed up?! in Bragg Creek presently live near Water Valley( 1 hr NW of Calgary)
not sure i need anything fancy, price is a factor, and it doesnt matter how good a shot i think i am,its still only mediocre!!
fixed sights would do.

Bragg Creek you say. Back in 1966/67 I worked in the BMO in Calgary and drove combine and cultivators for a fellow who rented 1/2 a twp from the Sarcee Indian Band. Farm was just south of the highway # 1 just past Bragg Creek if memory serves me right. Been awhile. Can't remember his name. Made more money working there on the weekends than I did at the Bank all week. LOL I suppose you are a Stampeter/Flames fan too, groan! Eskimo/Oilers at this end.

Man the world is from Sask. :>).
Dlask is great. They are waiting for a beavertail that I want. I would have had the gun back in a week but it looks like I may have to wait at least another two before the beavertail arrives from the states. I am not in a rush because I have a couplel of other 1911's I use. Befroe sending yuor gun there I would suggest you contact them and let Joe or Dean know what you want done. If parts are a problem and you need your gun back quickly, as stated I didn't, you can wait until he has the parts you want.
I recommend their work. Joe knows 1911's and makes an outstanding custom gun - full meal deal for around $1,900 bucks.
To bad about the Riders I thought they were the better team against B.C. and would have won the Grey Cup for the West. My Esks will be back next year!

Did you get your Norinco?

Hi Bob, no I passed on the 'rinco in order to buy a HP and that led to another HP and that was the end of my gun budget for a month or two!!
I think though that I'll order one from Marstar next month and hopefully have it for March, that way I can customize it the way I want it-probably just sights and a little trigger work.

Wish we had the 2nd Amendment rights! Maybe we ought to do away with the 49th take the best of both countries and call it square!
