I'm wondering if anyone knows how to get rid of scratches on my SS Delta Elite. Can you sand them with fine wet sandpaper or would it just make it worse. The scratches are on the bright SS on the side of the slide not the dull SS on top of the slide. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have some heavily used emory cloth I use for that. Usually some 300-400+ grit stuff that's been used, matches very well with the brushed look that most SS 1911's come with these days.

Go to the kitchen and get one of those "steel sponges" your better half uses to clean pots etc. Try those first. It all depends on how deep the scratches are and how polished the metal is. In the worst case, you can polish it yourself to mirror-finish if you like.

Howdy Texas,

If you own a Dremel, take it out in the driveway and hit it with a large hammer 8 or 10 times.

If they're not deep scratches...green Sctoch-Brite pads will probably do the trick. If you need to really polish the slide, try 400-grit Wet or Dry paper
laid on a flat, hard surface, and polish the slide on it lengthwise. If you want
a more polished look, step up to 600-grit. Don't use a buffing wheel. If you
want a more "Brushed" appearance, use 320-grit paper....and don't use a lot of pressure on any of it, regardless of the grade...just enough to keep the slide moving smoothly. Keep it flat on the surface, and take your time.
Check it often.

Luck!
