Saying hello for my first post on this board. And I Just wanted to tell of my deal that I just found this past week. I went to a gun shop on my drill weekend (out of town) to look around and low and behold I find her. She is a all original 1911 Springfield Armory#117xxx made in 1916 with both mags and a Rock Island 1916 holster, In pretty good shape. After I got her I have been doing the research on her and find she is all original. This adds to the WW2 All original Colt also that I have had for years marked RS. I am very happy with the find and adds to my growing collection. When I can figure out how to post pictures I 'll post them.
Thanks

117xxx is 1915 SA Production. Checkout the FAQ's above, and use an imaging host such as photobucket. Look forward to seeing some pictures.

Pepper, you have to get a picture up. Some people run into all the deals.

CCA that I was referring to is Coal Creek Armory in Knoxville TN, A pretty good gun shop and indoor range. Here goes on the pictures. I apologize on the quality of them. I have been trying to do this now for a few days.

I'll try and get some better photos later on. The pictures make it look a lot ruffer than it looks in person. But then again she is 90 some years old. But I do like her. :)
That is a fine pistol but I am unfamiilar with how it got the Springfield marking on it? It was made by Colt, right? Some history please.

jehu, The Springfield was made by the United States Armory in Mass. The Govt had a contract with Colt that they make the first 50,000?(am I right on this). Then, they (the Govt) could produce the pistol also.
Do you know how many Springfields were produced and are they rare? Is this only on the "Model of 1911", before 1924, pistols?

Springfield Armory Production:
SN 72,571 - 83855, 1914 - 1915, 11,285 Total
SN 102,597 - 107,596, 1915, 5,000 Total
SN 113,497 - 120,566, 1915 -1916, Total 7,070
SN 125,567 - 133,186, 1916 - 1917, Total 7,620
Total production was 25,767 pistols produced from 1914 - 1917. All Model 1911's. Certainly one of the rarer variations, especially all original and mint condition specimens.
Pepper, Colt produced about 72570 Model 1911 pistols from 1912 - 1914 prior to SA production. :)
