View Full Version : Not So Well Known Norinco 1911A1 Model
Here in the Philippines another Norinco 1911A1 model flourished in the late '99. As I have not seen that model here in this forum as well as other 1911 forums, might as well share the information.
I have a Norinco 1911A1 fullsize but this one is very much different from the rest we've seen here. The pistol has no Norinco logo on the slide and doesn't say "Made in China" on the frame. The only visible markings are ;
1. 1911 Cavalry (on the slide, thumb safety side)
2. FORGED STEEL (on the frame, thumb safety side)
3. GOVERNMENT MODEL ( on the slide, right side facing rear )
3. the serial number (on the frame, right side facing rear )
The model is popularly known here in the Phils. as the 1911 Cavalry. It has features such as Beavertail grip safety, rubber grips (with Norinco logo), videki style trigger, commander hammer and a better finish. Though recently, the fullsize model is no longer seen in the local gunstores ( might have already stopped production ).
Here's the photo of the unit , a Commander 1911 Cavalry Enhanced for your reference. I'll post mine (fullsize, not enhanced ) when I get back to Manila.

The unit was ordered directly from Norinco by Weapons System Corp., a local gun dealer/store here in the Phils.
Just wondering if any of this model ever got through Canada or somewhere else.

I don't think this model ever reached Canada. Interesting in that it does not say "Made in China" as the Norincos normally do. Looks like a real shooter.

Are you sure it's a full size? I may be wrong, but it looks more like a Commander size to me.

You are correct John, the picture shows a Norinco 1911 Cavalry Commander Enhanced model. I'll try to post a picture of the fullsize (non enhanced model) later. :)
Hi Robert, it is really interesting to note that this model did not put the "Made in China" marking. I was tempted before to use the frame and install another maker's slide but I guess I have to leave the unit alone for now. As you said, she's a real shooter (fit and finish on the non-enhanced model resembles that of a milspec). I might change my mind though in the future. Regards. :)

Happy Prosperous New Year to all !!!
Here's the picture of my 1911 Cavalry fullsize in .45cal. by Norinco (no Norinco logo and Made in China marking).

Two things happen here. Either the Chinese have much better eyes than mine, or they haven't seen a 1911 since the Vietnam conflict. Why do they insist in using those tiny sights on these pistols?

I've wondered that too.. Maybe for nostalgic purposes?? My early 90's model Nork has the GI sights, as well as every other stock Nork I've seen.

Interesting. I have never seen one offered here in Canada. I wonder if Norinco has a listing of all the various models they have offered over the years. Have you tried contacting them for any other info?

They probably don't manufacture any decent highly visible sights would be my guess, but it's only a guess.

The pictures I have seen of their Police Model ahve what looks like copies of the Novak sight on them. They copy everything else that is made for consumers so I don't understand why they don't put a decent set of sights on their regular model either.

I have seen that Norinco Commander Cavalry Model before in one of the Gun Store here in Baguio City, but I never saw that Cavalry full size model here.
Maybe they stopped the exportation of it to our country. I went around the gun stores here but I can only find the Norince Standard Model and the Police Model.
I just got my Norinco Police Model. Actually its my wife's Christmas Gift to me.
Here's a picture of it below.

Nice new gun Norin, good wife too. ;) Norinco already stopped exportation of their 1911 Cavalry fullsize model in the Phils. however the Commander size version is still widely available in the local market. Btw, worked before in Baguio for almost a year ( const. of Texas Inst. Bldg.II in Loakan Rd.), nice clean city. :) :)

Let's continue by saying "Good Women Carry 1911"
Ya Baguio City is changing. Not that clean anymore as compared years back. Even preferences on pistols changed.
