I went to the gun show today and found a new gov. model frame made by Double Star Corp. for $110.00 Has anyone else used one of these frames before? They are available from a buncha guys called "United Arms Corp." for around 90 bucks. They only seem to sell on Ebay and other auction places. There is a pistolsmith who uses them (and sells 'em on guntrader) his name is Thad Scott (of Thad Scott fine guns) and he builds his entry level "cheapies" from them. I understand the parts fit well on them and there is little 'smithing required.

Well I plan on fitting a commander length slide to this frame, and since this is not a commander size frame Im sure Ill probly have problems. I know Ill have to fit it with an extended ejector but is there any other things that need to be done? And which ejector do you guys think would be best to use?

G/B has them in the Parts and Accessories Section, under 1911 parts. I have a DSC/ Colt in Gov't size that I built and it works well and fit the slide like a glove. I did not have to do any fitting what so ever to build up the gun. I bought two for a gunsmith in S. PRK and he reports that both of them have produced excellent pieces. I am paying another DSC frame for an Essex slide shortly. For a 'shooter " gun, I don't see how they can be beat for the price.

Are these considered MIL SPEC, series 70 or series 80--any ideas as to which trigger or grip safety to use ?
Thanks

Are they available anywhere other than e-Prey?

My DSC/Colt used all Mil-Spec parts and I set it up as a Series 70....I would imagine that if you preferred a Series 80, you would need to get a gunsmith involved.....

I've seen them listed in CenterFireSystem's catalog/flyer/sheet
http://www.centerfiresystems.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=524
I've purchased ammo and odds&ends from them before with no problems. Never purchased an FFL type thing from them (or anyone else I cannot see and touch). No Affiliation.

I built a 1911 with an 80 series doublestar frame and stainless barrel the slide, trigger, hammer and grip safety were auto ordanance everything went together great except I had to buy a special slot filler for the 80 series frame, and had to lengthen the grip safety arm by welding it and filling it to fit, along with a little frame tightening the gun came out great.
