Mil Spec running 23 lb. MS,16 lb, Recoil spring, and a EGW oversize firing pin stop with 7/64" radius.(Yes I read this forum and Tuner makes sense. :scared: ) I installed a wilson bulletproof extractor and a loaded round stays in it when I shake it. It really doesn't bother me that much but when I take it to the range ,I spray my fellow shooters up to 5 stations to my right with brass. I know it's probably the extractor but I dont have a clue what to do. I have been told to up the recoil spring poundage but I dont want to put a band aid on it. I'm shooting American Eagle 230 grain FMJ's. They are a little hotter load I think. Thanks all for all your help and patience. Rich

Howdy Spindly,
Sounds like the slide is kickin' the brass after the extractor lets go. Look for brass tracks on the slide...around the port.
Try this:
Load one round in the magazine and shoot it. Watch to see where the brass goes. This eliminates the upcoming round's influence on the ejection pattern.
Yes. The rising cartridge bumps the empty brass and affects the extractor's release timing and the ejection path. My beaters throw the brass 2 O'Clock to the right and slightly rearward...maybe 5 degrees...landing 5-6 feet away...except for the last round. Those exit at a perfect 90 degrees to the gun at 2 O'Clock and land 2 feet away or less.
The GI Mil-Spec pistols have had more than a few issues with their ejectors
being out of spec, and have caused erratic ejection that ranges from your
problem to beaning the shooter between the eyes...even to having the brass fly over the left shoulder. The only cure is to replace it.

Thanks Tuner, I do Have both Kuhnhausen manuals expressly for this purpose . I will consult them for dimensions to see if it is out of tolerance. Being an ex machinist has its privledges as far as measuring.

LOL, you aren't kidding about that. When I got my SA GI, the first time I shot it I was shooting IDPA.
The RO started laughing after my first string, and then asked me what kind of .45 I had. When I told him (and that I had never shot it before) he started laughing again. He said that is the stranges gun he'd ever seen, it shoots the brass straight up in the air about 10 feet :p

Hey, as long as it gets out of the port and doesn't hit you in the noggin........all is well.
