Was reading the closed thread on the feed ramp being over cut by a dremel jockey and have another question. My brother bought a GI chrome lined barrel at a gun show off an old time gun smith. Won't mention his name but will say he is published on the 1911. He widened and polished the feed ramp in the standard format you usualy see. On to quick of an initial inspection it looked like a good job. But, after we got the barrel home and in the gun we saw that the ramp had been a over cut and the little ledge between the barrel ramp and frame feed ramp is longer than what I'd consider normal. The gun will feed FMJ but it does the KKlump when you chamber the first round. (Kinda think an STI mag catch would cure that though as it goes away when I hold the mag in tight) Taking the barrel back out and inspecting it a little closer you could see that the side of the chamber at the bottom is no longer perpendicular to the barrel. Haven't noticed any bulged cases but I still wonder if he ought to can it and get a new barrel.
Also pertaining to the original thread what is wrong a diamond impregnated rubber bullet shaped polishing tip if you are not a maniac?

Is this one better than the original barrel?
Did you modify the receiver for a ramped barrel and are just trying this one out?
I think I would look at new barrels. It is quite possible that the "old smith" got rid of that one for some of the reasons you specify.

It was a Caspian build. If he got rid of the barrel for the reason you stated I'd call him a **** bird

Wouldn't be the first time that I've seen a gun get botched up by a known guru.
Can you put up a few pictures?

I'll have to sign up for photo bucket or something. Also, I just noticed your where abouts. I used to live in Lexington and my son still lives off Happy Hill Road. Went there last year for his graduation. First time since 1990. Looks like most of the factory's packed up and went off shore.

Let see, if I remember right old 64 goes by Duracell and intersects the road to to Troy. Maybe that's new 64. Anyhow been down it, its just been awhile. Sorry if I am derailing the thread I started but it is spring and I miss the Magnolia's blooming, the humming birds, the Pampas Grass, and the smell of mowed wild onions. Think I'll retire down there if my kid ends up staying.

Derailed! Well...if the Commandante whups us for it, we'll take it to PM.
Kelie's dad worked for Duracell under contract for a couple years as a tool designer. It's on US-64...the new one that goes to Asheboro. A few klicks further east, and you come to I-85...southbound to the next exit is Old 64.
I'm three miles from the exit.
Highway 8 (Speedy's)turns into Raleigh Road at Silver Diner...which turns into Old 64 when you cross the I-85 overpass.
