Got my first 1911 back in Feb. a Springer full size stainless. I had some fail to feeds with the gun and consulted the forum and got some great advise.....thanks guys. First of all, nothing really needed to be done to the gone to make it work right, like you said, just shoot it! But it bugged me that the numbers engraved on the bottom of the slide had such a burr on them so I polished them up so they wouldn't drag on the disconnector sooo much. I am using a moly grease now that also seems to work great with the gun. I am handloading a 200gr. swc that runs through it like butter at 850fps. Shot my first IPSC match today with no failures of any kind and super accuracy. I am sooo happy, Thank's again guys. I'll be pickin your brains again in the future to make it work better. Suggestions on extended slide releases?

Why do you need an extended slide release? The general advice is to manipulate that, with the thumb of your support hand, not the thumb of your shooting hand.

I have to admit I was slow but I missed the slide release 3 times which messed up my concentration and caused me to loose a bunch of time. Not being familiar with the gun is most of my problem. Is there a problem with extended slide releases?

Not so much a "problem" with the extended slide release, as they do exactly as they are intended... they make the slide release much easier to engage and disengage. What becomes a problem is when during recoil when you bump that extended release and lock the slide open at the worst possible time.

There are people who like them, and people who don't... if you buy one, don't throw out the original one, so you can pick and choose between them.
