I've read a lot of threads where people recommend Caspian slides due to their tolerances and material. Being on a tight budget I happened to come across STI slides for $100 less than a Caspian. Seeing as how I still have to have a gunsmith fit the slide to the gun, is it worth the extra money for the Caspian slide?

I also haven't read any threads where people recommend STI slides for 1911 build ups. Is the quality of their slide questionable?

When I had my STI built we got into a discussion about slides. I used an STI slide without any problems. My gunsmith said that the only slide he has never seen break is an SVI. According to him everybody machines then heat treats. SVI heat treats then does the finish work.
The other side of that is SVI has the interchangeable breech face that can come loose.

where did you find a STI for $100 less than a Caspian?
if you are looking on their website, remember that you have to add options like sight cuts and serrations.

I have used both STI and Caspian slides with great results. It would come down to price and available options (Caspian has more options) when I made another choice. I just don't see one as any better than the other.

STI slides are quite good. If you are comparing slides with the same features (sight cuts etc), and the STI is 100$ less than the Caspian, I wouldn't hesitate. Both are excellent slides.
