After a year of saving my money (You family guys will understand, its like the mythical story of the guy that has to roll the rock up the hill only to have it roll back). And a year of plying my O.C.D to dissecting information garnered from this forum and several others I finally decided on an STI Trojan from Brazos Custom in Texas. It was $975 bottom-lined in my hands.
I have never shot an off the shelf .45 that was this soft or this accurate. It grouped under 1.5'' at 25 yards from the sand bags. Now I'm not much of a shot, content with 6-8" groups freehand at 25yds but I hit a pop can 5 of 8 shots at 50 yards and dusted it with the 3. So far 250 shots without a hiccup.
Many times during the last year when the hot water heater or the car cratered and my $1000 pistol budget got cut in half, I nearly weakened and bought a pistol like I already own. But I persevered and I would encourage anyone else travelling my path to hold out and save a little more money because it is well worth it in the long run. But be warned it could turn a hobby into a passion.
