Hope i'm in the right place for this question...
Do any of you guys have experience with Wilson Combat's "Bullet Proof Extrator," that they sell for the 1911?
I would like to put one in my Kimber Pro Carry II. So, scond question is, would it need tuning, or just drop in and go? I'm still learning on the 1911's, i have had several, but never worked on them, so i can't learn if i
don't ask :)
Thanks

Cactus,
I'm in a similar situation with an Ed Brown extractor and can share with you what I've learned thus far which is, "I have a LOT to learn" :D Most extractors will be a "drop-in" part as far as the actual installation, but any of them could require some fine tuning. If you go to the tech section on the main (non-forum) site there is a "how-to" check extractor tension and there are plenty of helpful folks here.
I've recently installed an Ed Brown in my Commander and it's required some adjustments. If you're interested you could read about it in this thread

Btw: are you having problems or are you wanting to experiment with a new extractor ?

Hey, Thanks to both of you guys. I looked at the thread you posted, but must admit, i am not real sure still, on 'tuning' the extractor. I'm not certain that i am quite getting the drift of 'how to,' or when it is " just right."

You won't go wrong with either of those extractors. I've had some that dropped right in without any adjustment, but that's not the norm.........

The biggest adjustment I had to make when I dropped one in my CD was to file/stone the rear flush with the slide. I only had to tweak the tension a little bit.

Both Brown and Wilson make quality parts. They can still be fine tuned. I strongly recommend Kuhnhausen's books on the 1911, available from Brownells. These books contain a wealth of information.

I sure appreciate all the info, and help here guys. I am going to go ahead with the wilson BP extractor, and check into that book from brownell's that "Gammon" mentioned here.
Sorry to sound dumb, but where on "This" Forum, can i find some "details" on "how to" tune the extractor?
Thanks guys
Cactus.

"Technical Issues" in the Gunsmithing section has a post by Bill Wilson on adjusting the extractor. I still suggest that you buy both of Kuhnhausen's books on the 1911.
