I picked up this Colt Series 70 Government Model from my dealer this afternoon.

Although there are a few slight differences between this pistol and the ones I owned in the 70's, I am more than pleased. A range test will follow after I've had a chance to clean it and get it ready for some action. Thanks to Dana Kamm and his excellent article in the "Product Reviews" section of this forum.

Beautiful Colt - That thing looks Brand New! I'm stoked I just picked up my 70series MKIV today too. I'll post some pics in a new thread! Very Nice find!

Great looking Colt there Steve. I was reading the review by Dana Kamm on the very same model as well as the Series 80. The Series 70 seems to be in more demand than the Series 80, at least in my area. I saw 4 of the Series 80 tonight at my local gunshop but no Series 70. I think I might holdout for the Series 70, it's a beauty! Congrats.

Thanks Jeff. :) I've been trying to get one ever since I first learned that Colt was re-issuing the Series 70.
bslamb,
It is new. This is the re-issue model that Colt is producing right now.

Thanks! I was a member of the club about twenty years ago. Saw the light and came back. I'm VERY glad that I did.

Very nice Steve.
They shoot as good as they look, and that is one fine looking pistol.

This is what I see on part of my little range that's located 50 feet from my front door. The paper plate with a 5 1/2 inch "Shoot 'N See" target is 54 feet from the spot where I was firing. (Fortunately, I also have some good open spaces to shoot rifles as well)

This is the plate after my first 8 shots from my new Series 70 Government Model. I AM NO MARKSMAN! However, I can't help but be pleased with the results out of a brand new gun. More is in store for the rest of the afternoon, but I thought I'd take a time out to show you these pictures.
I am very pleased with this new pistol.
(To those that might wonder, there is a 25 foot stock tank dam about sixty feet behind that target. Fifty acres total, with about a third of it in the trees.)

Steve,
You have a shooting range in your back yard?
Have I told you that I hate you?????

I AM NO MARKSMAN! Yeah right. ;)

200 rounds through the new Series 70 this afternoon. Absolutely no malfunctions, and, when I did my part, the accuracy is outstanding. As the others said previously, It's A Colt! I should expect nothing less. :D

50 feet from my front door is a 4 lane highway and a strip mall. :(
Isn't that 2 Colts in as many weeks for you Rio Vista? They do seem to take control of your mind and make you want more don't they?

Rio has been diagnosed with Coltisitis! That's for sure.

garrettwc,
For eight years during the 90's, I lived behind the busiest shopping mall in Fort Worth, because I didn't want the 50 mile one-way drive to work and back from my country place. :butthead: Stupidity on my part! You are also right that I have bought two Colts in two weeks. I originally tried to get my dealer to find the Series 70, but the nickel/stainless Commander came in and I had to have it. As luck (or my dealer saw me coming) would have it, last week he got the Series 70, so naturally I had to have that too.
As John said, I have a pretty bad case of "Coltisitis", but temporarily, I'm in remission. :) :) :) I'm staying away from my dealer for awhile too!

Rio,
What a beautiful pistol. It brings back memories of back in the late 70's when I first bought my first 70 series goverment model. Take it out and shoot the snote out if it.

harleydog,
As a young adult, my hands grew up wrapped around the butt of a Series 70 Government Model. I guess I never got over the comfortable feeling of that make and model of pistol. Many different brands of 1911's have come and gone since, but I fully intend to hang onto these new Colts, and I WILL shoot it until at least ONE of our noses bleed... :D
