So I have several S&W Performance Center :D semi-autos and a Kimber :D . What makes NHC that much better ? I really like the looks, but the $ are much more. George, I already know your opinion (thanks).
Sell me !!

Hey members, do not make 1911acp a believer. The more he believes, the more chances there are, he will end up in front of you, in Craig's waiting list. Let him our of it, you'll get your NHC faster! :p LORL
Why I turned to NHC for my first (and probably my only) hand-made pistol? Because they offer the features I want, none of those I hate and I haven't heard a bad thing about them.

All the info he needs to make an informed decision is already here.

If you have the chance or are able to, go shoot one. I know of no better way to get a TRUE feeling on how the pistol is different from all the others by running it thru its paces. People can point out the different specs. and tell you how much more time goes into one with all the hand fitting and polishing. All of that is true. But the Nighthawk shoots, and reacts different than standard production 1911's. Maybe you can ask around the forum and see if you are close to someone with a Nighthawk. Just my two cents.

Gunslingers, You're right. Sureshot45 lives about 2 hours from me but I have already put in my order for a Predator III with a Black Diamond finish. I am a believer because of: posts on this particular forum by people whose opinions I have come to respect; general dissatisfaction with my two Kimber Eclipse pistols; and pointed conversations and emails with Shane and Craig. I have shared all the foregoing with The Wife. She insists that I carry the most reliable 1911 .45 ACP currently available, since I choose to "keep going out there". She says, " Money is inconsequential when you are involved in a game called, You Bet Your Life".

I'm very pleased with my two NHCs. In fact, I've chosen to wear my Talon II during my meanderings in Arizona (and the GRP is in the car). But after a bit it becomes difficult, IMHO to really describe why one make is better than another, or even to objectively determine one make to be better than another.
On this forum you'll find at least one person who has had a bad experience with any particular make grade 1911 as well as folks who have had very good luck with an example of just about any make.
My Les Baer are great pistols. And I like my NHCs. And I have an Ed Brown that performs very well. Any of them will do to ride the river with. But, I've started now to lean toward NHC because they have features I like and because I can field strip them without tools and because they've certified in California variations I'm now interested in (commander and officer size).
Are these top of the line 1911s objectively better performers than S&W or Kimber or any of another reputable makes? I'm not really sure how to measure something like that.

If your about 2 hours from Bosco your probably in NC some where. If it's toward Durham let me know and I'll let you handle and shoot my Talon II and my Kimber and let you make up your own mind.

OK, so say I'm moving closer to parting with money :scared: .. which NHC is your recommendation for IDPA and range use ? OK George, you can now participate. :D

I also vote for the full size Talon, which is what I am using for IDPA and PPC. An adjustable rear sight may be nice but certainly not necessary. Also a GRP minus the lasergrips and minus the rail would make an excellent IDPA/range gun since it comes standard with adjustable rear sights (but no magwell).
If you want to try out a Talon let me know and we can go up to the LC&SA and put some lead down range :D

1911acp, just shot my GRP for the first time and in my humble opinion it is WELL worth the money. Find one to shoot and I bet you will want one.

I'd opt for the Talon just because I like the groves down the top of the slide and the way they checker the back of the slide -- not a big deal to me, but it's kind of trick. If you really want adjustable sights you can order the Talon that way.
My GRP is a great shooter as well, and if you want a magazine well, I suspect that you can order it that way.
So it comes down to a question of which features melt your butter.

Like Frank I've got some good guns in my safe but the Nighthawk is my favorite - hands down. The accuracy is great - nice tight groups. I like the weight - bull barrel, full guide rod and if you slip your finger up the magwell you'll feel frame metal on the Talon goes further up than on most other guns. Weight means less muzzle flip. And it just feels comfortable in the hand - better grip = better accuracy. For customer service there is none better. I've had some minor issues and Craig has turned the gun around in 48 hours. With other manufacturers the gun sits for weeks and god forbid you give them a call and ask for status. So, is it worth it to buy a NightHawk I would say yes. About the only thing I don't like is metal hardness on the slide. I have found that the slide stop notch edge has peened back and needs to be hammered back down. I'm not one of those guys who pushed the slide stop down to get the gun into battery - I pull the slide back and then let it go so there should be no issue with the slide stop but there is. But still in all it is a terrific gun and I do recommend it.

I asked myself this same question and the Talon I was the answer. The classic 5 inch bbl with a familiar sight radius fit the bill for my competition and self-defense needs ( I was shooting a Kimber Custom II with Custom Shop work).
Though the Talon can be finicky, when things are smokin' they're really smokin'. I shoot IPSC and this milieu places more demands on the pistol than even IDPA, for there is much more runnin' and gunnin', not to mention higher round counts per stage ( generally speaking).
I hope that is helpful to you.
Best regards,
Joe C.

I agree...the Talon is the way to go for IDPA or IPSC Single Stack...I have one for carry and one for competition...
