After being without a Colt 1911 since 1983, the drought ended today! Below are three pictures of my new XSE Lightweight Commander. I owned Commanders and a Combat Commander back in the 70's and I am very proud to be a Colt owner again.

The last photograph shows the color contrast between the frame and slide a little better.

I'll get my new Colt cleaned up and take it out for a workout tomorrow after work. I can't wait to put some rounds down range with it.
(Hunter, you're RIGHT!)

I had intended to really "go to town" with my new XSE LW Commander today, but it's raining here (no gripes, we need it here in Texas) and I will have to wait to go to an indoor range later in the weekend. However, I couldn't resist loading up a magazine and shooting a few rounds.

Forty feet, Weaver stance, eight rounds in about ten seconds. The seven-ring is a "called flyer". I think I'm going to love this gun! :D
I'm so weak!!!!! It's one hour later, and I went ahead and put the rest of the 100 count box of Wally World Winchester 230 gr. ball through my new pistol. I AM in love with this gun!!

After a weekend that accounted for 5 inches of rain, the sun finally came out today, so I decided to run a reliability test on my new Commander.
Two hundred and fifty rounds, absolutely zero malfunctions. I was mainly testing the functioning of the pistol as opposed to accuracy, but I was hitting everything that I was "plinking" at (plastic milk jugs, aluminum cans, etc.). Did I expect anything less? Nope!

Thanks. I put $200 down on mine this last Saturday, but I won't be able to "bail it out" for at least a month, maybe two (sob). Looking at pictures of yours...... helps.

Sir, you have been diagnosed with Colt's disease. There is no known cure. However, it can be managed with therapy. Doctors recommend medicine known as 230 FMJ. For economy's sake I suggest you purchase the larger 1,000 dose cases. Therapy is to take 50 doses, twice daily.

Steve,
Oh yes the rain :butthead: I was worried that a club IDPA match would be called this past Saturday, but we got lucky. However, as to the rest of the weekend, I think the animals were beginning to pair off.

Today I chose to put the "deciding" rounds through my LW XSE Commander. Twenty-five rounds at twenty-five yards, one handed slow fire. The ammunition used was Wally World Winchester 230 gr. FMJ.

This pistol has functioned perfectly from the first round fired. The fit is outstanding, and the feel of the gun in my hand is perfect for me. This Colt will begin today to be my primary carry weapon, and it's earned that right.
I hope that these series of pictures and comments haven't bored the membership. I've been away from Colt 1911's for quite some time, but I never thought I would find one that pleases me as much as my departed Series 70 did. This handgun has surpassed my expectations. Thanks for allowing me to ramble. :) and.....thank you Colt for manufacturing such a fine gun.

Yes, yes, we've been bored. This pistol is no good, not accurate nothing special about it. To show you how good I am with members, pack it up and send it to me, I'll make sure you never bother the members here with such a louzy pistol and so bad shooting.
Get out of here! Why bother us, that's the kind of threads we love!

I have a close buddy that wants to unload a Lightweight Combat Commander. Straight sights, no trigger work or custom work, blued finish. In about 90% condition. Older model, and without the serial numbers handy I think he said it was made in the 1980s. It is a series 80 model. What would be a fair price where we are both happy? Let me know. I want to be fair with him and with myself on this potential purchase.

Bill,
I don't have a Blue Book for reference, but I did check on gunbroker.com to get an idea. You might check there to see if a pistol like your buddy's is listed for sale. It appeared that $400 to $500 was about right, but I'd check it out to see for yourself. Hope this helps a little bit.

John,
Thanks for the encouraging words. :) Since the trigger on my LW Commander has lightened up with use, I'll throw one more example of this Colt's accuracy at you.

Winchester 230 gr. FMJ at 24 feet, modified Weaver stance, about 8 to 10 seconds. Two and one half inch spread.

Rio Vista Slim: Thanks for the reply. You are about right. I saw several around town in the $450-500 range. I have been without a Colt (like you) for a while and that Lightweight Commander just seemd to fit me so well.
I'm going to talk to him tomorrow and see if we can hit upon a price in that range where we are both happy. As much as I love 'em, guns are not worth a friendship, so I want a price where were are both happy and where he makes a buck or two and I save a buck or two. I'll let you know what happens.
Thanks, again ole buddy!

You have a nice colt there, and it looks like youo have set in pretty good with it by the looks of the targets. Happy Shooting.

Thanks harleydog,
I've shot better and worse over the years, but these new Colts help inspire me to do the best that I can.
