I had these grips stored in a parts-are-parts box anyway, and just happened to have a set of Colt medallions (and a 1/2" Forstner bit)...so, this seemed like a good thing to do this morning.

C&L, that sounds like the results of some market research there. Maybe you have a second career in the making. "Grips by C&L" has kind of a ring to it.

I have a pair of stag grips( I hear this stuff is sorta hard to come by?) They are too thick for me;so I took them to a local LEO who wants to buy them. What is a fair(to both of us) price? Or price range...I won't quote anyones replies. I saw some for sale on the famous on-line auction site for $225 USD :scared:
Commandante, make me an offer I cain't refuse(I'm saving up for a new Colt!!!)

IMHO these look GREAT on blued guns/less so on SS.
I tried them on my GC;but they are too thick for me.
MIne also look rougher)natural, deep grain of the antler.
Can these things be thinned down somehow without ruining them??

Have you ever tried some on a Nickel Plated gun? Don't, that's the worst looking combo yet (at least to me.) :nono:
On blued guns or not at all for me. These were thicker than I liked. A couple of years ago I sanded the front surface side down to make them thinner. That removed lots of the "Bark." A buffing wheel with Tripoli Buffing Compound brings them back to looking good.
You are right. Generally, this type of grip is thicker than standard 1911 grips. These pictured are thicker as well, but not by much.
Once again, these are not Indian Sambar Stag but European Red Stag. The Sambar usually has more bark and is worth more $$.
Sambar for Single Action Revolvers (Colt & Ruger) and S&W Double action N-frame revolvers are the ones that bring the big dollars, usually more so than the 1911 style grips.
Kinda like these...not a 1911 Colt, so forgive me for posting this pic :o

Wow, I've always been a sucker for blonds. Blond grips, knife or women. What a great looking pair You are right about blonds on stainless. Blue gun, light color grips. Stainless or nickel gun, dark color grips. Just my .02 worth.

I wish I could my friend, I wish I could. However, I am a poor man, supporting a family of five (persons and one cat), two trucks and three Internet sites. I can't afford those beauties, no matter how much I would like to have a set.
But to get an idea on prices, we have a Sponsor here, who sells such grips and they have a fine collection of them, it's Elen Hunting. Somewhere in the middle of the second row of sponsors above. Check them out.

Dear Commandante,
Please accept my humble apology. I did't aim to use the Colt forum for my personal sales venue. Really stupid of me.
I did check out the website you suggested to find prices on these grips. I cannot afford Indian Sambar stag grips at today's prices(I'm semi-retired;and have been for 10 years). The pair I have was purchased 30 years ago! I'm sure I paid a helluva lot less.
Thank you for the info./guidance.
You have my gratitude and admiration for all the work you do on this fine Forum;and for sharing your knowledge and wisdom.
Mike
