Hello all, I`ve had the good fortune of of purchasing a pre 70series
Colt National Match. The piece is not original ;i.e it doesn`t have the original barrel (it`s a 70series Gold Cup) . I fired the gun , & its trigger, feed reliabity ,& accuracy are better than I can shoot! A question ,upon dissesambly I noticed that there was a cracked sear,at the trigger actuation point. I also noticed that the small sear spring ,& mating piece were not present. Did the pre 70series even have the small sear spring ? I don`t see any hole in the sear to accept the pin. Secondly the gun had a Pachmeyer grip safety . It has a coating of some type of plastic on it I guess to reduce felt recoil ? . I notice the top of this safety has hammer strike marks . Is this because the Pachmeyer has this plastic coating which makes it slightly bigger? From what I see the hammer & sear make a nice contact . No hammer bite. I apologize for such a long post ,however I want to see just what I`ve got here ! Thanks, Charlie

Be sure you do not shoot full power loads from a pre 70 GCNM as the slide was lightened by removing metal from each side of the disconnecter rail to shoot light target loads. A steady diet of full power loads can crack the slide. If the sear is cracked anywhere you should replace it before shooting it anymore. I do not think the Pre 70 GCNM had the sear spring. As far as the Pachmeyr grip safety the hammer may be coming into contact with it while it is being cocked just be sure the grip safety is fitted correctly and functions. You can go to www.sightm1911.com and click on 1911 history about 2/3 down that page you will see National Match highlighted and that will take you to the NM history page where it talks about your GCNM as well as the others. Welcome to the forum

As far as I'm concerned, hammer marks on the grip safety are no cause for alarm. Some guns get them, some don't. You could analyze and correct it, but it really doesn't matter. If I had the gun, I would replace all non-original parts with the correct ones, then check function. A good barrel for it would be a military National Match with the NM-marked bushing. A pre-70 commercial NM barrel may come up on ebay once in a while, but will be pricey.

Thanks guys, you gave me direct useful answers ,I learned something .I intend to use original Colt Parts. I got an original slide stop & mainspring housing from an outfit called CDNN. I got a Chip Mccormick series 70sear from Brownells . What do you think of this CDNN outfit ,located in San Antonio? They say that these are original Colt parts. But the prices just seem to good to be true. $20.00for a colt grip safety? Well, I`ll find out one way or another . I didn`t want to use the Commander style hammer offered with the sear,I`ll fit the new sear to the original spur hammer. What`s the opinion concerning "drop in parts" from these big aftermarket outfits? I think I can just "drop in" the new sear ,but iI`m sure it will need some type of final fitment. You never see them advertising drop in thumb safeties ,they need to be fit ,if only a little dressed . Any opinions? OH BTW , I`m using a set of my favorites ; Hogue kingwood 20 lpi grips. Now you know why they call me Charliegrips!

CDNN is the largest liquidator of firearms and firearms parts in the country. Their prices are low because they buy the stuff low. I have never heard anyone complain that they might be passing off counterfit parts, so I think you're good buying from the, if they have what you need.
