I'm guessing if a roundtop slide is draw-filed/ flattopped it weighs less than before...duh
but comparing weights of slides that are factory-flat to the "pointless" factory standard roundtop ones, which are generally heavier? I am asking only about Colt's pistols in any and all models whereby each/both options are available on the same model. Sheesh, that didn't even make sense to me!

As close as I can sort of come to an apples to apples comparison are two Colt 1911s from the 70's. That is a comparison of a 1974 Gov. model I bought new with a 1977 Gold Cup I also bought new. The Gold Cup is not a problem as it is stock and weighs about 1070 grams. The problem is that the Gov. Model has the ejection port opened, which would remove a tiny amount of weight and larger new sights installed which would add a tiny amount of weight. I also installed a flat mainspring housing, which would remove a small amount of weight, and installed an extended aluminum trigger which would add a tiny amount of weight. Anyway it weighs 1113 grams. These weights are unloaded with the Colt supplied magazine.

Laying in bed lastnight I was thinking actually the comparison is closer than I first thought since the Gold Cup has a flat mainspring housing so now both pistols do. The Gold Cup also has an enlarged ejection port, so now both pistols do. The Gold Cup also has larger (and adjustable) sights and an extened trigger, although it is wider.

If one was real interested in this one could buy a round-top slide, (Probably a used one at a gunshow). Then one could weigh it before flattening it with their instrument of choice, from file to milling machine, and weigh it again.

I am not THAT interested myself.
